What is different from other Ooni Ovens? The vent on the back helps to suck air into the oven. This is quite useful considering that the pellethopper can't collect enough air since it's always covered.
Unboxing everything, reading the instructions and setting it up took no more than 10 minutes – impressive stuff.
First, you will need to remove the chimney cover. Next, remove and replace the chimney cap. I followed the directions and used around two handfuls to get me started. Add a firelighter, such as the Ooni ones that were provided, to the front of grate. Light it and push it into the back.
The Ooni Fyra's design is still very similar to the Ooni Fyra and other Ooni models. It maintains the Ooni Pizza Oven's iconic dome shape. It looks very similar to Ooni Karu, Ooni 3 and Ooni 3 models.
It was easy to put together the Ooni Fyra pie oven. This assembly was simple for someone who lacks patience in following instructions (my Ikea flatpack meltdowns can be quite legendary in our home),
Amazing stuff. It took 10 minutes to unpack everything, read through the instructions, and then set it all up.
I have to be honest, the first few pizzas were not as good as I had hoped. I found they were slightly burnt on the bottom and not cooked correctly on the top. This was disappointing for the children. The general consensus was that they weren't as good at Franco Manca.
It would be a great idea to invest in a pizza peel. Without one, it would be almost impossible to bake a pizza in an oven. I also plan to buy another one to make it easier for me to set up a little production line. It's not necessary to cook for four people. However, if you cater to more people you might find it useful to be able prepare another pizza on the second peel.
Ooni Fyra's pizza oven can be used outdoors. Light the fire starter, place the tray on the surface and then slide it back into the oven. This will serve as the foundation of your fire. You can check the flames through a window in the oven's front to see how they are progressing. After the flames have stopped blazing, add more fuel to the pellethopper to maintain a steady flow of fuel into the fire. If you want your fire to burn strong, a hopper filled with pellets will last about 15 minutes. You can't leave it alone for too long, and the temperature will drop. This cannot be fixed simply by adding more pellets.
The pizza oven kept its temperature very well as long as it was topped up with pellets. I was able take out one pizza, open the door, and then prepare the next pizza. It took no time at all. It was unnecessary to wait for the oven heat up to again.
It's been used in all weathers. We've made it during glorious summer, rainy Saturday evenings and winter. Check out the story below to see how it went...
But, at the end of it all, the Fyra 12's real question is whether or not the Fyra 12 can cook high-quality pizza. The answer is a clear yes, provided you're willing to work around its limitations.
Once the dough was rolled out I placed the base onto the pizza peel, before adding the toppings. To prevent your pizza base sticking, make sure that the peel is very well floured. Place your toppings onto your pizza.
The ease of cleanup is something I love about outdoor cooking. Fyra 12's soot buildup is not a common problem (even when the flame is well-oxygenated). You can't clean everything at once. Fyra 12 has two chimneys. One for smoke and the other for pellet loading. They have many removable parts and can all get filthy after being used. The pizza stone can be cleaned easily and needs little else.
Amazing stuff. It took just 10 minutes to set everything up, unpack everything and read the instructions.

I recommend the Koda 12 for large families and those who plan to make pizza the star of their next dinner party. This will cost you an additional $50 and give you less portability than pellets. However, it will make your life easier and bring you more pleasure.
The only additional drawbacks about the Ooni Fyra 12 are things I could have anticipated and ultimately felt I could live with. Cleaning the oven is a little fussy, for example. After waiting for it to cool entirely and disposing of the ashes, you can wipe the inside down with a dry cloth (no water can be used) and, as the company writes on their website, scrape off stubborn bits of food or debris from the cooking surface with a pizza brush. I needed to use a fish spatula and some elbow grease to really clean the baking stone, though by flipping it for the next cook (as recommended), I did find that the high heat helped burn any straggling bits off.
Reading the guidelines again (always a good idea to do this properly before you cook obviously), I worked out that we needed to rotate the pizza in the oven after 20 or 30 seconds to make sure it cooked evenly. Problem solved and I was soon churning out beautifully cooked, delicious pizzas that were ready in around 60-90 seconds. These ones definitely got a big thumbs up from the kids.
My recommendation: have two cooks — one focused on flame maintenance, the other focused on pizza assembly and cooking. Also, get an infrared thermometer; it's more or less essential with all the variability in heat.
Here are some facts about my life that, if purchasing an outdoor pizza oven were like getting a puppy, I would provide to the adoption agency: I have a roof that I can access where I occasionally utilize a tiny charcoal grill, but it is unfinished and a little slanted. There is a table up there, but that’s it. No outlets. No gas hookup. Real sparse vibes. Additionally, I do not like the idea of using a propane tank because they freak me out. The less I have to do in order to keep this oven lit and operational, the better. With all of that in mind, I referred to Ooni’s Compare Ovens page and determined that the Fyra 12 was the match for me.
The Ooni Fyra is great-value pizza oven that delivers restaurant-quality pizzas in less than a minute. Perfect for pizza oven beginners as well as pizza aficionados, its compact size means it's ideal for any space, plus it's lightweight and portable so you can take it on day trips or holidays too.
Ooni Fyra cleaning is very simple - another advantage. Once the oven has cooled (which can be a few hours), you can simply take out the grate and empty any ash. I use a dry kitchen towel to clean the pizza stone. You can clean the exterior using a moist cloth and soapy hot water. That's it! It requires very little effort.
The main body of your oven can be removed from the box. Next, unfold the legs supporting the main portion of the oven. Before you insert the grate, slide the pizza stones into the base. You then attach the main chimney, the taller part at the front, and lock it into position. Next, you insert the fuelhopper (the smaller cylinder towards the back). You're done!
Ooni recommends that you place your pizza oven in an area where there is no wind. Also, keep it at least 3ft (1 m) away of structures to get the best results. The manual advises that it be placed on wood, stone, marble, and stainless steel surfaces.
The Fyra lives up to its promise of portability. The chimneys can fit in the oven cavity, and the legs can be folded up. It is lightweight at less than 20 pounds and has a powder-coated exterior that is scratch-resistant and durable.
We have used it in all kinds of weathers: in the summer when it was hot and sunny, in the rainy Saturday evenings that we wanted to indulge, and even in winter when it was just as enjoyable as summer when it was warm and glowing under fairy lights. You can read the rest of our story to learn how it turned out.
