I only have two complaints about the overall design: The peephole in the door, there to let you check on a cooking pie without letting out heat, is too tiny to actually see through. And the fire box in the back is also too small, so it's difficult to maintain a consistent flame.

Here are some facts about my life that, if purchasing an outdoor pizza oven were like getting a puppy, I would provide to the adoption agency: I have a roof that I can access where I occasionally utilize a tiny charcoal grill, but it is unfinished and a little slanted. The pizza oven arrived in an extremely compact box, which was very easy to transport to the garden. I was amazed by the compact packaging and couldn't believe the entire pizza oven was inside.

The chimney is removable and allows air to circulate inside the oven. A second chimney is located on the backside. This is the pellet-hopper. It is taller than Ooni 3's, and almost twice as large.

We've been enjoying our Ooni Fyra Oven pizza oven for many afternoons and evenings. Then lockdown rules made it possible to have other people in our garden so we enjoyed making pizzas for everyone.

The Ooni Fyra is the successor of the Ooni 3, which was a popular model. It uses wood pellets for fuel, unlike its predecessor. The oven has been upgraded with performance improvements and a new design. The upgrades include a taller fuel hopper, a larger viewing hole and a stronger shell that retains heat better than the Ooni. It was delicious, even though it took us a while to perfect the pizzas. We also liked the small cooking area, compact size, and portability of the device. It was a little difficult to light up and use initially.

The viewing hole at the door allows you to keep an eye on the oven's performance and check how it's burning. After the first set of pellets has ignited and burned well, you can slowly add more pellets the the fuelhopper on top of your oven until it is full. The hopper automatically loads the pellet into your oven. To keep the oven at the right temperature, it is important to regularly top-up the hopper. A full hopper with pellets should last around 15 minutes.

With that in mind I placed it on a raised wooden dining table on our outdoor space. It is protected by a wall and fence on two sides, making it ideal for keeping out the wind.

The chimney is detachable and helps circulate air inside the oven. There’s also a second chimney at the backside, which is the pellet hopper. It’s taller, almost double the size of that of Ooni 3’s hopper.

Watch out for a slight backdraft when you remove the oven door from the oven to turn the pie or take it out. This can lead to flames flickering out of the oven's rear. Although it's not an issue for those cooking pizzas at the front, you may want to make certain that the oven is positioned away from areas where children could be easily walked past.

Although I was initially surprised at the size of the Ooni Fyra Pizza Oven, it has proven to be its main benefit. It's lightweight and portable.

With this in mind, I placed ours on a raised wooden table on our patio space. It's a fairly sheltered spot, bordered on two sides by a garden wall and fence, so definitely tucked away from the worst of the wind.

This is a great way to make sure you get your pizza off the peel without losing your toppings. It's easy to get the hang of it, and it takes only a few attempts.

Windy conditions will prolong the heating process and expose pellets’ greatest flaw: poor flame maintenance. The Fyra 12 may reach the ideal temperature for making pizzas, but it does not stay there. Even under perfect conditions, it can only cook Neapolitan pizzas in a matter of minutes. Sometimes, however, it may take some time to get the oven ready for the next batch.

Windy conditions will increase the time it takes to get hot, and they also expose pellets' greatest flaw: flame maintenance. While the Fyra 12 is capable of reaching ideal pizza-making temperatures, it doesn't stay there. Even with perfect conditions, the window to cook a proper Neapolitan pizza is just a few minutes, and the oven often requires a bit of recovery time between pies.

My suggestion is to have two chefs -- one who is focused on flame management and the other who is focused on cooking pizza. With all the variability in heat, it's important to have an infrared thermostat.
