The oven's viewing hole allows you to check the oven to make sure it is burning well. After the first set has been ignited and is well-burned, you can add more pellets into the fuel hopper at the top of the oven until it's full. The oven automatically feeds the pellets into the hopper, so you don't have to push them down. To maintain oven temperature, you will need to refill the hopper regularly. A full hopper of pellets will last approximately 15 minutes.
Ooni Fyra's pizza oven can be used outdoors. Light the fire starter, place the tray on the surface and then slide it back into the oven. This will serve as the foundation of your fire. You can check the flames through a window in the oven's front to see how they are progressing. After the flames have stopped blazing, add more fuel to the pellethopper to maintain a steady flow of fuel into the fire. If you want your fire to burn strong, a hopper filled with pellets will last about 15 minutes. You can't leave it alone for too long, and the temperature will drop. This cannot be fixed simply by adding more pellets.
Simply remove the main oven body from the box, and then fold the legs that support it. After the grate has been inserted, slide the pizza stone into place in the oven's base. After the main chimney (the longer, taller portion at the front) has been inserted, lock it in place and then insert the fuel hopper (the smaller cylindrical at the back). The chimney cap and door can be attached and you are good to go.
My favorite thing about the oven is how easy it is to use. The wood pellets and fire starter combo could not be simpler, and so long as you keep the hopper filled to the top (and don’t, as I did on one occasion, forget about it while eating pizza for 45 minutes), you’ll be rewarded with consistent, very high temperatures. The first time I used the Fyra, I was scared about getting the pizza off the peel and into the oven, not maneuvering the pie around the oven correctly, or otherwise ruining dinner by having no experience working with a pizza oven before, but the entire process was intuitive. Without ever interacting with live fire, you reap all of the flavorful benefits in your cooking.
Ooni's cheapest pizza oven is a lot of fun. But the learning curve may be too steep for some cooks to overcome.
We put the Ooni Fyra pizza oven to the test to see if this compact and portable oven is up to the challenge of family pizza nights
Ooni's pizza oven revolution has been difficult to ignore. The popularity of the Ooni pizza ovens has skyrocketed since 2012 when their first model was released. There are five models available. Prices range from $349 - $799. All models can only be used outdoors. The marketing suggests that you can use them outdoors, regardless of your outdoor space (photos from camping trips and fire escape pizzas are posted on their Instagram), and whatever level you are comfortable with fire cooking. I took that wager.
I was also provided with Ooni Premium hardwood flakes and an Ooni 12’’ classic pizza peel.
It's been used in all weathers. We've made it during glorious summer, rainy Saturday evenings and winter. Check out the story below to see how it went...
The Fyra delivers on the promise of portability. The chimneys fit into the oven cavity. The legs can be folded up. It weighs less than 20 lbs and is durable and scratch-resistant.
Read on to learn more about how the Ooni Fyra 12 wood pellet pizza oven works, where it is most successful, and the pizza oven’s biggest drawbacks.
The Ooni Fyra is a lot of fun, and for many potential buyers, the pros — especially the price — will outweigh the cons.
The Ooni Fyra was extremely easy to assemble. This assembly process was easy even for someone like myself, who has zero patience when it involves following assembly instructions (my Ikea flatpack meltdowns in our house are quite famous),
The Ooni Fyra is great-value pizza oven that delivers restaurant-quality pizzas in less than a minute. Perfect for pizza oven beginners as well as pizza aficionados, its compact size means it's ideal for any space, plus it's lightweight and portable so you can take it on day trips or holidays too.
This in mind, I set ours up on a wooden table that we have placed on our patio. This is a very protected spot. It's bordered on two sides with a fence and garden wall, so it's well hidden from the wind.
However, the main question about the Fyra 12 at the end is whether it can cook a top-quality pizza. You can answer yes, but you will need to learn how to navigate its quirks.
Let's not forget that outdoor pizza ovens can be expensive. Even the most basic options can run from $500 to $1,000. The Fyra 12 is priced at $349. That's $50 less than Ooni’s gasoline-powered Koda 12 ($399). It is also $350 cheaper that the Karu 16 ($799). Both can use different fuel types.
For my maiden pizza voyage, I sourced all-natural fire starters and organic wood pellets from a local hardware store, which initially seemed to work fine. But the oven never reached the temperatures that the website claimed it could, and it took more like 4-6 minutes to cook each pizza. When I used the actual Ooni branded starter and hardwood pellets, the fire lit much faster and was much stronger, to the point that I could cook the same dough in a fraction of the time (1-2 minutes total).
Ooni Fyra 12 also allows you to cook other dishes, provided that your cookware fits in the oven slot. Ooni also offers recipes on its website, such as banana bread and duck breasts. The Ooni Fyra 12 can also be used to cook other foods. This will work with a tiny cast-iron skillet. However, you will need to take the skillet out and turn the food inside. The handle of the skillet won't stick to the oven. Ooni, however, has its own cast-iron skillet that can be removed. I don't like this (the pan is also small and fragile, IMO) so I will stick with pizza.
The compact packaging made it easy to transport the pizza oven to the garden. The packaging was small and compact. I couldn't believe that there was an entire pizza oven in it.
Fyra 12 is great, but there are some caveats. Ooni brand pellets and fire starters must be used. It is however annoying. Your pizza will thank you. When you make a lot of pizzas, it is important to keep the hopper full. These are just a few of the things I recommend, but if you have the patience to remember them, I highly recommend it. It's as easy as a wood-fired oven to use and produces excellent results. It folds up easily for storage. I am looking forward to using the Fyra 12 once more. I am already planning a pizza party for my parents next month. It is truly amazing how it works. I could easily take them to New York City for pizza. However, I now have the ability to make my own homemade pizzas.
There are many things that pellets can do. They and they burn very efficiently, as they were mentioned earlier. This is however disputed when it comes to cooking at high temperatures necessary for pizza-making.
Ooni is the leading brand in backyard pizza ovens. Their Fyra 12 ($349) model is their most affordable. Ooni's most compact option is also the Fyra 12 It weighs 22lbs and uses dry hardwood pebbles as its fuel source. These pellets are easily transportable and can be purchased at most grocery and hardwood stores in the U.S.
You can keep checking to see how well it's burning using the viewing hole in the door of the oven. Once the first set of pellets are ignited and burning well, you can gradually add more pellets to the fuel hopper on top of the oven, until the hopper is full. The hopper automatically feeds the pellet into the oven, so there's no need to push them down. You do need to make sure you regularly top up the hopper when you're cooking to maintain the oven temperature. A full hopper of pellets lasts around 15 minutes.
Like the Ooni 3 as well as the Ooni Karu ovens, the Fyra also has a door. It helps to keep the heat in the oven. It has a handle made from glass, which is cool and comfortable to touch, even if it heats up. The door opens easily and doesn't get in way. To make it easier for you to slide your pizza into the opening, the handle can hang at its bottom.
I recommend the Koda 12 for large families and those who plan to make pizza the star of their next dinner party. This will cost you an additional $50 and give you less portability than pellets. However, it will make your life easier and bring you more pleasure.

It's all about how they feel. The learning curve is steep. My theory is that a lot of it comes down to the small firebox mentioned in the previous section.
If you have a craving for handmade, wood-fired pizza, the Ooni Fyra is definitely worth a try. The company says it will buy back your oven after 60 days if you don't like it, so you really don't have much to lose... Disclosure: Ooni provided a Fyra pizza oven for evaluation but had no input into this review. 20 Sept 2020
Our Favorite Fuel for the Ooni Pizza Oven Don't worry about the flavor of wood chips. We usually get hickory or mesquite, but since the pizzas cook so fast, you won't taste a difference. 27 June 2019
We recommend a sturdy table that is capable of holding weights upwards from 13kg (28lbs). Wooden picnic tables are perfect. Most surfaces are suitable, including wood or stone. 17 June 2021
Which Is Better Ooni or Roccbox? While both the Ooni and Roccbox pizza ovens are capable of making excellent, authentic pizza, the Ooni is a better value. Ooni offers six different pizza ovens with similar features to the Roccbox for, in some cases, a significantly lower price.
