The Ooni Fyra's design is still very similar to the Ooni Fyra and other Ooni models. It maintains the Ooni Pizza Oven's iconic dome shape. It looks very similar to Ooni Karu, Ooni 3 and Ooni 3 models.
What does this all mean for the end-user? The Fyra 12 consumes a lot more pellets than it needs. The proper flame to cook more than one pizza takes away from the main pizza making process.

Here are some facts about me, which I would share with the adoption agency if I bought an outdoor pizza-oven. There is a roof over my head that I can access, where I sometimes use a charcoal grill. However, it is unfinished and slightly slanted. There is only one table on the roof. No outlets. No gas hookup. The atmosphere is very sparse. I am also not a fan of the idea to use a propane tank. They freak me out. The less I have that I need to do to keep this oven operational and lit, then the better. With all that in mind, Ooni's Compare Ovens page helped me to decide that the Fyra 12 was the best match.
It is so easy to use. The combination of wood pellets, fire starter, and fire pellets is extremely simple. If you fill the hopper to the top, you will be rewarded with consistently high temperatures. The Fyra was my first experience with pizza ovens. I was nervous about how the pizza would be handled. The flavorful benefits of cooking with live fire are all available to you without having ever touched it.
Ooni's cheapest pizza oven is a lot of fun. But the learning curve may be too steep for some cooks to overcome.
For a full clean, Ooni advises that you run the Fyra at full temperature for 30 minutes to burn off any excess food.
The Fyra delivers on its promise of portability. The chimneys fit inside the oven cavity and the legs fold up. Weighing little more than 20 pounds, it the powder-coated exterior is durable and scratch resistant.
Ooni is the name to trust when it comes to backyard pizza ovens. Ooni's Fyra 12 (349) is the most affordable model. Ooni also makes the Fyra 12 portable. It is 22-pounds in weight. The Fyra 12 uses dry hardwood pellets to fuel its combustion. These pellets are more easily transported and available at many hardwood stores and grocery stores throughout the U.S.
There is the option of buying an Ooni infrared thermometer if you want to be 100 per cent sure of when it's up to temperature, but although this might be a good gadget to have, I don't feel it's essential for you to enjoy cooking pizzas in the oven. After a couple of times using the oven, I was able to have a good idea of when it was hot enough.

The Ooni pizza oven phenomenon has been hard to ignore. Since 2012, the popularity of this company from Scotland has increased exponentially. The company now has five models, ranging in price from $349 up to $799. These range from gas-powered pizza ovens such as the Ooni Koda 12 and multi-fuel ovens such as the Karu 16, which are compatible with propane, wood, charcoal, or propane. They are not suitable for outdoor use. According to the marketing, they are all suitable for outdoor use. That bet was mine.
Lightweight and compact, the Ooni Fyra 12 portable pizza oven can be toted up and down from the roof when needed. It’s the least expensive model the company currently sells. And best of all, it is fueled by wood pellets taht you feed into a hopper at the back of the oven. No stoking flames, rearranging charcoal or logs, or (god forbid) touching a propane tank in any way.
The oven door has a viewing hole that allows you to inspect the oven to ensure it is burning properly. Once the first batch of pellets have been lit and are burning well, add more pellets in the fuel hopper to the top of an oven until you're satisfied with the amount. The hopper automatically inserts the pellet into oven. To maintain the oven temperature you need to fill the hopper with pellets. A full hopper of pellets can last about 15 minutes.
Ooni Fyra 12 is also capable of cooking other foods, as long as you have oven slots that can hold your cookware. Ooni offers recipes for items such as duck breasts or banana bread. These can be cooked the same way in wood-fired ovens, rotating to face the heat source. The skillet can be used, but you will need to remove the skillet from the oven and turn the food within the pan. Ooni solves this problem by making its own cast iron skillet, which has a removable handle. I find this fussy. Also, the pan is flimsy and tiny, IMO. So I will stick with pizza.
Since we got our Ooni Fyra pizza cooker, we have spent many an evening and night having backyard pizza parties as a whole family. When lockdown rules allowed us the freedom to invite other people into our garden, we were happy to cook pizzas for them all.
There's very little to do when it comes to cleaning the Ooni Fyra – another great selling point. Once the oven has cooled down after use (which can take a couple of hours), you simply remove the grate and empty the ash from it. I also tend to wipe the pizza stone with dry kitchen towel to remove any food residue. The exterior can be wiped down with a wet cloth and soapy water. And that's it really! It really requires minimal effort.
Don't be fooled by its diminutive size either as this pizza oven is more than capable of delivering delicious pizzas that are just as good as those from your favourite pizza restaurant. It's been a fabulous addition to our outdoor entertaining setup and we can't wait to put it through its paces again this spring and summer.
Ooni is the best brand for backyard pizza ovens. The Fyra 12 ($349), which is Ooni's cheapest model, is its Fyra 12. Ooni's most portable option, the Fyra 12, is also available. It is 22 pounds in weight and uses dry hardwood pellets for its fuel source. These are easier to transport and more readily available at hardwood shops and grocery stores across the U.S.
The next evening, we were ready to go! After making a huge batch, my husband and I turned our small garden table into a pizza maker. We have made homemade pizzas before.
Windy conditions will prolong the heating process and expose pellets’ greatest flaw: poor flame maintenance. The Fyra 12 may reach the ideal temperature for making pizzas, but it does not stay there. Even under perfect conditions, it can only cook Neapolitan pizzas in a matter of minutes. Sometimes, however, it may take some time to get the oven ready for the next batch.
It was a huge bummer to receive my Ooni with the plan to make pizza that very day, only to discover that I did not have a bunch of the requisite materials—namely, a pizza peel, fire starter, or wood pellets, none of which come in the box. If you do not buy the pizza peel from Ooni, be sure to get a model that is thin and narrow enough that you can fit it, plus a pizza, into the oven with enough clearance to shake, shift, and angle each direction. I got this one and really like it. You could presumably use a wooden peel as well, but I found I needed the thinness of metal to successfully maneuver.

You can adjust the chimney vent to increase heat in the Ooni Fyra. The chimney vent can be opened and the chimney cap removed. This will increase the oven's internal airflow and raise the temperature.
Two things I have to complain about the design are the peephole at the door that allows you to check on the cooking pie but not let out heat. It is too small to see through. The firebox in the back is too small so it's hard to keep a steady flame.
You have to feel it all, and there is a steep learning curve. My theory? A lot of that is down to the small fireplace mentioned in the preceding section.
Most Ooni pizza ovens are built well from materials including stainless steel, which makes them durable enough to stay outside for reasonable periods of time. If you choose to leave your Ooni outside, just make sure it is sheltered from rain, snow, and high winds so that you can extend the life of your pizza oven.
Once your oven has reached high temperatures, the smoke should lessen (see below). If you see lots of smoke in the middle of your cook, you may have incomplete combustion or smoldering pellets. Top up a little until you see the pellets begin to burn again. 22 Feb 2022
If Ooni Fyra is not running hot enough, check that your chimney vent is open and chimney cap is removed. This will provide maximum airflow and top temperatures through the oven.
How much fuel do I need? Ooni 3 burns hardwood pellets at around 1kg (or 2lbs) per hour. The 10kg (22lbs) bag of pellets available on ooni.com is good for around 10-12 hours of cooking. That's a lot of 60 second pizzas! 17 June 2021
Then, if you really want to, you can wipe out the inside with a dry cloth or paper towel (but only once your oven is completely cool). If you've got really stubborn bits, once your oven cools, very carefully remove your baking stone, flip it over and place it back in your oven.
