Ooni's pizza oven is hard to miss. The Ooni pizza oven company is based in Scotland and was first introduced in 2012. It has seen tremendous growth in popularity over the years. Five models are available, with prices ranging from $349 to $799. They include gas-powered pizza ovens, such as Ooni Koda 12, and multi-fuel pizza ovens, like the Karu 16. These ovens can be used with propane, wood, charcoal or propane. All models are suitable for outdoor use. It seems that there is an Ooni available for everyone, no matter what outdoor space they have (photos of camping trips cookouts and fire escape pizzas are featured on their Instagram). I chose to make that bet.
It is so easy to use. The combination of wood pellets, fire starter, and fire pellets is extremely simple. If you fill the hopper to the top, you will be rewarded with consistently high temperatures. The Fyra was my first experience with pizza ovens. I was nervous about how the pizza would be handled. The flavorful benefits of cooking with live fire are all available to you without having ever touched it.
Ooni Fyra has a lot to offer and is well worth the money.
It also takes up little space in your shed (which is always a plus when it's already crammed into the rafters), so it can be stored easily when not in use. Ooni-branded covers are also available to fit this oven. This cover has carry handles so it can be easily taken to the beach or to a friend's place, as well as on camping trips.
Windy conditions can make it take longer to heat up and expose the pellets' greatest weakness: flame maintenance. Although the Fyra 12 has the ability to reach perfect pizza-making temperatures it is not able to stay there. Even under ideal conditions, the time it takes to make a Neapolitan pizza can be only a few seconds. Also, the oven requires some recovery time between pies.
I baked a batch, took the dough to the roof and made the oven. The rest was trial and error, numerous pizzas, multiple rooftop parties. Many compliments.
Ooni Fyra 12 allows you to also cook other items provided you have suitable cookware. Ooni's website has many recipes, including duck breasts and banana cake. Ooni recommends that you use the Ooni Fyra 12, which can be used in any wood-fired oven. Cook the food the same as in an oven: rotate the pan to make sure every angle faces the heat source. Although a small skillet made of cast iron will work, the skillet's handle will stick out of the oven. Ooni offers a cast iron skillet that has a removable handles. This seems a bit fussy. I also think the pan is a bit small and fragile.
The chimney vent can be adjusted to increase the heat within the Ooni Fyra. You can open the vent by removing the chimney cap. This will naturally increase the airflow within the oven, and thus raise the internal temperature.
It takes up very little space in our shed, which is always an advantage when it's already jammed to the ceilings. This allows us to store it away when it is not in use. Ooni covers are available for this oven. This cover comes with carry handles that allow you to easily transport it to the beach, to a friend's house, or even camping trips.
Ooni's cheapest oven for pizza is great fun. For some, the learning curve might be too steep.
Does it deliver high-quality pizza? Is it easy to use? Can it actually go on the road? I tested one for more than a month to find out.
The real question is, however, whether the Fyra 12 can make a good pizza. As long as you are willing to navigate around its quirks, it's a simple yes.
The chimney is detachable and helps circulate air inside the oven. There’s also a second chimney at the backside, which is the pellet hopper. It’s taller, almost double the size of that of Ooni 3’s hopper.

Before I tried Ooni Fyra 12, there was no way I could have imagined that this year I would master making pizza. New York City has many great pizza options. There is always pizza wherever I am. I don't have the skills to create cast-iron pies at home. I assumed that my ability to make the fancy, wood-fired leopard-spotted pizzas found at my favorite restaurants was beyond my (and mine) capabilities. I was too intimidated to attempt something I would never be able do half the way as the pros.

The Ooni Fyra's design is still very similar to the Ooni Fyra and other Ooni models. It maintains the Ooni Pizza Oven's iconic dome shape. It looks very similar to Ooni Karu, Ooni 3 and Ooni 3 models.
The oven's viewing hole allows you to check the oven to make sure it is burning well. After the first set has been ignited and is well-burned, you can add more pellets into the fuel hopper at the top of the oven until it's full. The oven automatically feeds the pellets into the hopper, so you don't have to push them down. To maintain oven temperature, you will need to refill the hopper regularly. A full hopper of pellets will last approximately 15 minutes.
Let's just get this out of the way: outdoor pizza ovens don't come cheap. Even middle-of-the-road options can cost anywhere from $500 to $1,000. The sticker price of the Fyra 12, however, is $349 — $50 less than Ooni's gas-powered Koda 12 ($399) and $350 cheaper than the bigger, top-of-the-line Karu 16 ($799), which can use different types of fuel and also carries a seal of approval from the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana (the international body that protects and preserves the tradition of Neapolitan pizza-making).
Ooni suggests running the Fyra on full heat for at least 30 minutes to eliminate any excess food.
Ooni Fyra is available for purchase on their website. This site can also be used to find out if the item has sold out. Ooni accessories, bundles, and pizza ovens are all available at the Lakeland Ooni section (opens in new window). Check out our widget below to find the best deals for today.
If you want to increase the heat inside the Ooni Fyra, you can simply adjust the chimney vent. By opening the vent and ensuring the chimney cap is removed, it will naturally increase the airflow inside the body of the oven and as a result boost the internal temperature.
Reading the guidelines again (always a good idea to do this properly before you cook obviously), I worked out that we needed to rotate the pizza in the oven after 20 or 30 seconds to make sure it cooked evenly. Problem solved and I was soon churning out beautifully cooked, delicious pizzas that were ready in around 60-90 seconds. These ones definitely got a big thumbs up from the kids.
The Ooni Fyra model features the same foldable legs as every Ooni oven. Its compact and portable design is one of our favorites, as we mentioned before. It measures 27.17 inches by 18.9 inches by 10.24 inches. The unit is small enough to be placed almost anywhere.
The Ooni Fyra 12 only has some minor drawbacks, but these are things I could have anticipated. I was able to live with them. For example, cleaning the oven can be tedious. After cooling the oven completely, take out the ashes and clean it with a dry, non-toxic cloth. Finally, use a pizza brush or a scraper to remove any remaining food and debris. I had to use elbow grease and a fish spatula to clean the baking dish. However, by flipping the pan for the next cook (as advised), the high heat helped to melt any remaining food particles.
The Ooni Fyra packaged pizza oven is light and easy to transport.
The Ooni Fyra package pizza oven is lightweight so I could carry it around in my garden.
Ooni Fyra includes a pizza oven cover, serving boards, and even pizza peels. There's a lot to choose from, including pizza cutters and trolley tables, as well as topping stations that include compartments for all your favorite toppings.
The extreme heat from Ooni pizza ovens provides the ideal cook for a juicy, tender, and succulent steak. With the Ooni Dual Sided Grizzler Plate, you can cook multiple steaks at a time using the grizzler ribs to create those picture perfect sear marks. Simple but effective. You'll thank us later!
Will I notice a difference in flavor between wood and gas? You may notice a small difference in flavor. The smell of burning wood will give your pizza a subtle wood-smoked flavor which you won't get using a gas oven. The difference however will be very slight since your pizza won't be in the oven for a long time. 3 Mar 2022
