I couldn't be more pleased with this. I cannot praise this pizza oven enough. It's lightweight, easy to assemble and move around in your garden. Even if you have a small backyard or balcony, this is a great purchase. You'll soon be able to make your favorite pizza oven recipes.

Ooni advises that the best place for your pizza oven is a location that is protected from wind and 3ft (1m away from structures) for best results. The manual recommends that the pizza oven be placed on wooden, stone or marble surfaces.

With that in mind I placed it on a raised wooden dining table on our outdoor space. It is protected by a wall and fence on two sides, making it ideal for keeping out the wind.

But, as with any pizza oven the Fyra 12 will need fuel. Fuel is expensive. Ooni sells bags 20-pound for $25. There are cheaper options, however, and any brand will suffice. Grab some fire starters, while you are at it.

The Ooni Fyra still looks very familiar to its predecessors and the other new Ooni models. It has maintained the same classic dome shape that’s a trademark design of Ooni pizza ovens. It features a chimney much like the Ooni Karu and the Ooni 3 models.

Ooni has an infrared thermometer that you can use to determine when your oven is ready. After trying the oven several times, I had a pretty good idea of when it was warm enough.

The oven doesn't come with a thermometer so you have to guess when it will be ready to heat. In most cases, however, it only took about 15 minutes to heat up. If rolling flames can be seen along the roof, it's ready to go.

Ooni Fyra cleaning can be very easy. After the oven cools down, which can take some time, remove the grates and empty out the ashes. To get rid of food residue, I tend to wipe down my pizza stone with a damp kitchen towel. You can also wipe down the exterior of the pizza stone with a soft cloth and soapy tap water. That's it! It is very easy to do.

Ooni has added an inch to the handle. This is something they do not have in their other models. It acts as a peephole and allows you to check on pizzas without opening your door. But sometimes, it was difficult to see clearly after we had cooked a few pizzas.

You can purchase an Ooni infrared thermometer to make sure it is at the right temperature. But, it doesn't have to be essential if your goal is to bake pizzas in the oven. After several times in the oven, I was able see when it was heating up.

Ooni recommends running the Fyra at maximum temperature for 30 minutes in order to completely clean it. This will help you burn any food leftovers.

It is simple to light the Fyra 12: simply load the hopper full of pellets, start the fire starter, add more pellets and then relax with a cold drink. It also heats up quickly. The Fyra 12 can reach the desired temperature in about 15 minutes, assuming that the weather cooperates. You should heat your oven to 950 to 1000 degrees for Neapolitan pizzas.

We've also replenished the wood pellets for the pizza oven, choosing to stick with the Ooni-branded hardwood pellets we were originally sent as they worked so well. A large 10kg bag of pellets (£19.99) has lasted us a long time, so it's not expensive to run the oven.

My maiden trip to make pizza was my first. I bought all-natural fire starters as well as organic wood pellets at a local hardware. This worked fine. Although the oven reached the correct temperature, it took me 4-6 minutes per pizza to cook. The Ooni brand starter was faster and stronger than the hardwood pellets. This allowed me to cook the same recipe in only 1-2 minutes.

Fyra 12 is not recommended for cooks who want to make pies for large parties. The Fyra 12 is not recommended for large groups. In fact, the oven was too hot to heat up beyond 500 degrees Fahrenheit after only three or four pies. What did you get? The result? Pizzas that took longer to bake and didn't have the right texture.

The chimney can be detachable and circulates the air inside of the oven. There is also a second chimney on the backside. It's the pellet hopper. It is twice as tall as Ooni 3 and nearly twice as big.

This Ooni Fyra model also features the trademark foldable legs found in every Ooni oven. One of our favorite things, however, as mentioned earlier, is its compact and portable nature. The unit measures 27.17 x 18.9 x 10.24 inches. It’s a fairly small pizza oven that can be set up almost anywhere, with minimal space required.

Ooni has included an inch of opening right beside the handle which is another thing that lacks in their other models. It serves as a peephole, allowing you to keep an eye on pizzas without opening the door, but we could not get a clear view sometimes after cooking a couple of pizzas.

It also takes up minimal space in the shed (always a plus point when it's already crammed to the rafters), so we can easily store it when not in use. If you don’t have storage space, you can also buy an Ooni-branded cover to fit this particular oven. The cover also has carry handles, so you could easily take this to the beach, a friend’s house or even on camping trips too.

Two things I have to complain about the design are the peephole at the door that allows you to check on the cooking pie but not let out heat. It is too small to see through. The firebox in the back is too small so it's hard to keep a steady flame.

The Ooni Fyra oven is the successor to the Ooni 3 which was one of the company’s most popular models. Unlike its predecessor, it uses only wood pellets as the fuel source and has also been updated with several performance improvements plus a more innovative design. Some of the upgrades include a taller hopper to hold more fuel, a new viewing hole, and a robust shell that retains more heat than the Ooni 3. The pizzas we made with it were so good although it took a few tries to get them right. Other things we liked were the modest cooking surface it offers, the compact and portable nature of it, and the fact that it’s easy to assemble and that you can use almost any type of wood pellets. We did find it slightly tricky to light and use at first though.

If it did not get crispy, you did a good job doing a neapolitan pizza, because this is not supposed to get crispy but to stay soft. If you want a crispy pizza, go for a 2-3 min bake at 650-700F. The faster you bake, the softer it'll be! 21 May 2020
