This mansion is a sprawling, late 19th-century estate with period furnishings and artwork. You can arrange tours by appointment. For history lovers, the mansion is a must see. You will also find special events such a black tie gala.
The Wyeth – Tootle Manor is a historic house located at 11th & Charles sts. William M. Wyeth built the mansion in 1879. Mann Architects designed it in Gothic style. They had travelled extensively throughout Europe to gather ideas and build the mansion which was completed in 1883. The Tootles occupied the house until 1887 when it sold.
The mansion includes three floors and one tower. There are more than 40 rooms inside the house. Beautiful woodwork, hand-painted ceilings and imported stained windows are all part of the interior. It is possible to see what it was like living in the 19th century. Near downtown St. Joseph, Missouri is the Wyeth-Tootle Mansion. Huston Wyeth was a well-known businessman and held many positions within the city. He was active in the city’s manufacturing and arts industries. He served on the board of directors of Blue Valley Creamery Co. He was involved in the Waterways League of America as well as the American Museum of Natural History. He was also a member and past president of the Wyeth Duck Club (St. Joseph Duck Club) and the Audubon Society (St. Joseph Duck Club). He also served the presidency of the St. Joseph Hardware Company.
