Wyeth-Tootle Mansion.
The mansion, which dates back to the late 19th-century, is filled with period furniture and art. On request, tours are offered. For history buffs, this mansion should be a must-see. The mansion hosts special events such as a black-tie gala.
The Wyeth - Tootle Manor at 11th & Charles sts is a historic home. William M. Wyeth constructed it in 1879. The Gothic design was created by Eckel and Mann Architects. They had travelled extensively throughout Europe to gather ideas and build the mansion which was completed in 1883. The Tootles lived there until 1887 when it was sold.
The mansion consists of three floors and a tower. The house contains more than 40 rooms. Beautiful woodwork, imported stained glass, and hand-painted ceilings are just a few of the features found in the interior. Visitors can also experience life in the late nineteenth century. The Wyeths-Tootle Mansion, located in downtown St. Joseph is a great place to visit. Huston Wyeth held several important positions in the city, as well as being a businessman. He was active in the city’s manufacturing and arts industries. He served as president of the Humane Society of St. Joseph, and on the board of Blue Valley Creamery Co. He was involved in the Waterways League of America as well as the American Museum of Natural History. He was also a member, among others, of the Wyeth Duck Club and St. Joseph Duck Club. He was also the president and founder of the St. Joseph Hardware Company.
