The Wyeth - Tootle Manor, at 11th and Charles sts., is a historical mansion. William M. Wyeth constructed it in 1879. The Gothic design was created by Eckel and Mann Architects. They had travelled extensively throughout Europe to gather ideas and build the mansion which was completed in 1883. The Tootles owned the house from 1887 until it was sold.
The mansion has three floors, and a tower. There are more than 40 rooms inside the house. Beautiful woodwork, hand-painted ceilings and imported stained windows are all part of the interior. The interior allows visitors to experience the life of a late 19th-century resident. The Wyeths-Tootle Mansion, located in downtown St. Joseph is a great place to visit. He was involved in the Waterways League of America as well as the American Museum of Natural History. He was also a member, among others, of the Wyeth Duck Club and St. Joseph Duck Club. He was also the president of St. Joseph Hardware Company which he owned and managed.
