This mansion is a sprawling, late 19th-century estate with period furnishings and artwork. On request, tours are offered. History buffs should visit the mansion. Special events include a black tie gala and other special events.
The Wyeth – Tootle Manor is a historic house located at 11th & Charles sts. William M. Wyeth built it in 1879. It was designed in Gothic style by Eckel and Mann Architects. They had travelled extensively throughout Europe to gather ideas and build the mansion which was completed in 1883. The Tootles lived here until 1887, when the property was sold.
The mansion is three stories high and has a tower. The house boasts more than 40 bedrooms. Beautiful woodwork, imported stained glass, and hand-painted ceilings are just a few of the features found in the interior. You can experience life in the late 19th-century. Huston Wyeth, in addition to his business success, held several city positions. He was actively involved in the city’s arts and manufacturing industries. He served as president of the Humane Society of St. Joseph, and on the board of Blue Valley Creamery Co. He was also involved in the Waterways League of America, and the American Museum of Natural History. He was also a member the St. Joseph Duck Club, the Wyeth Duck Club, the Audubon Society, and the St. Joseph Duck Club. He was also the president of St. Joseph Hardware Company which he owned and managed.
