Topic: Mid-west Team welding tournament Summary: The Section hosted 130 contestants, who competed for five team trophies, 25 individual trophies, scholarships, and $10,000 in door prizes at its 38th annual welding tournament. Teams came from Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, and Illinois. The keynote speaker was AWS Vice President John Bray, and the winning team was from Pike Central High School, Petersburg, Ind. Individual winners were Eli Loveland (SMAW), Pike Central, Petersburg, Ind.; Travis Jacob (GTAW), Pike Central, Petersburg, Ind.; Josh Moore (GMAW), Whitewater Tech, Connersville, Ind.; Trevor Harlan (FCAW), Impact Institute, Kendallville, Ind.; and Jacob Dils (Theory), Whitewater Tech, Connersville, Ind. ST. LOUIS April 21 Location: Southwestern Illinois College, Granite City, Ill. Presenters: Rick Suria and Mike Kamp Summary: The Section held its 2016 Student Night and awarded Outstanding Student Awards along with a new grinder to each recipient. Scholarships ranging from $750 to 1500 and totaling $13,500 were awarded. Pizza and drinks were served, and door prizes and AWS student memberships were raffled off.
