SOCIETY NEWS Tony Brosio Dist. 14 director tee. He recently completed his second three-year term as chair of the AWS D1 Committee. Kenneth Temme is nominated to serve as Dist. 2 director. He currently works as a contract QA/QC inspector, recently serving with Kawasaki Heavy Industries in Kobe, Japan. He has served as chairman of the Philadelphia Section, of which he is still a member. He also worked as the assistant school director for Divers Academy International and as a journeyman for UA Local 322 Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union. Carl Matricardi is nominated to continue serving as Dist. 5 director. An AWS Certified Welding Inspector and Certified Welding Educator, he has worked in the welding industry for 35 years and is founder and president of Welding Solutions, Inc. He has taught welding and manufacturing processes at technical colleges and state universities in Georgia, and served as an expert witness. Joshua Burgess is nominated to serve his second term as Dist. 8 director. He is a metallurgical/welding engineer with General Electric. He has served on the Executive Committee Board and as chairman for the NE Tennessee Section, as well as Dist. 8 deputy director and director. He earned a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering with a concentration in Welding Metallurgy from the University of Tennessee and has more than 13 years of experience in the welding and metallurgical industry. Phillip Temple is nominated as Dist. 11 director. He is president of eNergy Wise Consulting, LLC, and retired from the Detroit Edison Co. He served two terms as chairman of the Welding Handbook Committee, and continues to serve as an advisor. He served as Section chair and Executive Committee member in several Sections. He has been the recipient of the Samuel Wylie Miller Memorial Medal Award, National Meritorious Award, Distinguished Service Award, and an AWS Distinguished Member. Tony Brosio is nominated to serve as Dist. 14 director. He currently teaches welding at Ivy Tech Community College. He has worked in the welding and fabrication industry for 26 years, and been involved with the AWS Indiana Section for 10 years, serving as chairman and Dist. 14 deputy director. He has also been involved with the SkillsUSA regional and state welding competitions, as well as the Midwest Welding Competition for the past 10 years, and served as chairman of the 2015 Professional Welding Competition Committee. Jerry Knapp is nominated to serve his second term as Dist. 17 director. An AWS member for more than 38 years, he has served as chairman for the Tulsa Section, and as a board advisor. He has extensive experience as a salesman in the gas and welding supply industry, and currently works as a consultant. He has worked for Gas and Supply, Alloy Welding Supply, Arkansas Specialty Co., Jimmie Jones, National Welding Supply, Bell Helicopter, Adair Sheet Metal, and American Mfg. of Texas. He has also worked as a grinder, welder’s helper, and in sheet metal welding. Pierrette Gorman is nominated to serve her second term as Dist. 20 director. She has chaired the New Mexico Section and received the Section and District Meritorious Awards. She currently works at Sandia National Laboratories. Earlier, she worked as a research and applications engineer at Optomec, Inc.; welding engineer at Wilson Greatbatch, Ltd.; and a research technician at Edison Welding Institute. Nominations. Nominations, except for Executive Director and Secretary, shall proceed as follows: (a) Nominations for District Directors shall be made by the District Nominating Committees see Article III, Section 2(c). The National Nominating Committee shall select nominees for the other offices falling vacant. The names of the nominees for each office, with a brief biographical sketch of each, shall be published in the July issue of the Welding Journal. The names of the members of the National Nominating Committee shall also be published in this issue of the Welding Journal, along with a copy of this Article IX, Section 3. (b) Any person with the required qualifications may be nominated for any national office by written petitions signed by not less than 200 members other than Student Members, with signatures of at least 20 members from each of five Districts, provided such petitions are delivered to the Executive Director and Secretary before August 26 for the elections to be held that year. A biographical sketch of the nominee (and acceptance letter) shall be provided with the petition. Any such nominee shall be included in the election for such office. A District Director may be nominated by written petitions signed by at least ten members each from a majority of the Sections in the District, provided such petitions are delivered to the Executive Director and Secretary before August 26 for the elections to be held that year. A biographical sketch and acceptance letter of the nominee shall be provided with the petition. Any such nominee shall be included in the election.
