FROM THE PRESIDENT’S PEN
Thank you to Randy Layman and his committee for
hosting the 2017 Leadership Conference in Roanoke, VA.
If you missed it, you missed great classes with excellent
presenters, a fun vendor night and a lovely banquet.
Congratulations to Jason Eagle on being named the 2017
Adjuster of the Year.
The new board members have started working on
our vision to increase our membership. Committees are
being formed to look at innovative ways to reach out to
adjusters throughout the state. If you are approached
to serve on a committee, please consider agreeing to
being a part of moving our fine organization forward. If
you have any ideas that may help us reach out to new
adjusters, please let any of the board members know.
I joined the Claims Association because that’s what
my first boss in the insurance industry said all adjusters
did. Bill Melton and Shayne Evans with Virginia Mutual
Insurance Company were big supporters of the local

claims association. When I took the leap and was
promoted to an adjuster, I just assumed that’s what I
VSCA President
was supposed to do - join the local claims association.
I have not regretted getting to know other adjusters
and vendors. I have made good friends, expanded my
knowledge in both industry-related topics and personal
growth, and helped my children with scholarships. As
much stress as this job entails, the opportunity for
fellowship with fellow workers should be encouraged
and sought. If you haven’t been to a meeting in a while,
seek out the next local meeting and see what they are

doing. If you haven’t been to a Leadership Conference,
make plans to go to the 2018 Conference, being held in
Portsmouth, VA in October. If you have ideas, let us know
so we can make our association one that is growing and
meeting the needs of adjusters.
I am looking forward to joining each local association
during one of their meetings in the upcoming months.
