opportunity to listen to the thoughtful parting comments
of our immediate Past President Jason Eagle and the first
chance for our incoming President Dawn Mulkey to speak
to us on her ideas and vision for the future administration
of the Virginia State Claims Association. And then came
the proud moment representing the most anticipated
event at each of our 50+ previous conferences: the
selection of the VSCA 2017 Outstanding Adjuster of the
Year. As has been the case for most of the last 20 years,
Art Hardy, Chair of the Adjuster of the Year Committee,
stepped up to the lectern to introduce this year’s
nominees from all six of our active local associations. Gary
Barkman of Hanover Insurance Group was nominated
from Lynchburg, Jason Eagle of N & C Claims Service
represented Roanoke Valley, Diane Pilcher of Virginia
Farm Bureau was selected from Richmond, Dorothy
Sparrow of Crawford & Company is from Peninsula, Liz
Swank of Swank Adjusting from Mid-Valley and, filling out
this particular dance card of very fine and accomplished
candidates for our 2017 Outstanding Adjuster, was Ben
Varney of Liberty Mutual Insurance, the candidate from
Hampton Roads Claims Association. In the end, the
candidate selected on our behalf by a committee chosen
by the South Carolina Claims Association was Jason Eagle
of N & C Claims Service and the Roanoke Valley Claims
Association, in the closest selection via point system
within memory. In keeping with Jason’s well-repeated
comments and ultimate success in the past year of his
tenure as VSCA President in maintainlng a tight schedule
