Lockheed MartinLed Team Delivers Future USS Detroit to U.S. Navy The Lockheed Martin-led industry team has recently delivered the nation’s seventh Littoral Combat Ship, the future USS Detroit, to the U.S. Navy. It is the fourth Freedom-variant Littoral Combat Ship delivered to the U.S. Navy. “Once commissioned, the USS Detroit will represent the interests of the United States where and when needed, with a level of force that will deter and defeat threats,” said Joe North, vice president and general manager of Littoral Ships and Systems. Currently, the industry team is in full production of the Freedom-variant with six ships under construction at Fincantieri Marinette Marine and three more in long-lead material procurement stage. This will be the sixth U.S. Navy ship named USS Detroit. Infrasense Scans 14 Florida Bridge Decks Using Several Testing Techniques Infrasense, Inc., a provider of nondestructive evaluation for the transportation infrastructure, has recently performed condition surveys of 14 bridge decks in Florida’s Northeast District 2 region. A variety of nondestructive exams were performed, including infrared thermography scanning, high-resolution video, ground penetrating radar, and impact echo testing. The radar, scanning, and video surveys were completed without lane closures. The data collection was conducted at traffic speed within a survey vehicle. Ground penetrating radar data was also collected to estimate rebar depth and corrosion conditions; this was taken in a series of lines spaced 3 ft transversely across the width of the deck. Infrared data and high-resolution video were collected simultaneously in a series of passes across each deck. The scanning and video images were compared and used to create condition maps without surface anomaly influence.
