FABTECH 2016 Conferences Las Vegas, Nev. Destructive and Nondestructive Testing Conference Wednesday, November 16th, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM This full day about testing during FABTECH will feature destructive testing in the morning and nondestructive examination in the afternoon. A number of destructive testing methods will be covered, including the Charpy test. Featured in the afternoon session will be a presentation on phased-array nondestructive examination. Destructive testing stands at the very top as a stopping point in the list of projects that have to be executed before and after the arc is struck in the welding of many critical materials. Such tests as the Charpy and the crack tip opening displacement (CTOD) can tell you what to expect in terms of toughness. And these days, nondestructive examination is just not what it used to be. Spend the afternoon of November 16 seeing how cameras, plus both phased-array and time-of-flight diffraction testing, are providing new looks at welding performance. So You’re The New Welding Engineer Wednesday, November 16th and Thursday, November 17th This conference will teach the new welding engineer how to get “up to speed” quickly, how to ask the right questions, and how to get the results needed, save money, and stay out of trouble. This two-day conference is intended for managers, engineers, designers, and others with welding responsibility but limited exposure/background in welding. The sessions are based on arc welding applications but the principles have universal applicability. Presentations and discussion are based on the Application Analysis Worksheet, which was developed to teach a senior college course to engineers about to enter the industry, with the objective of helping them develop a path to understand and deal with the challenges they were about to face. Distortion Control Conference Thursday, November 17th, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM Distortion is practically everybody’s problem — for the welders and the inspectors on up to the welding engineers and the owners. Come hear about some of the solutions to the problem by experts who have been through the mill themselves. Presentations on thermal forming and arc straightening will be held in the same conference.
