7.4 Sharing objects with a group

The group owner, additional group managers, or any members of the group may share with the group any objects to which they have access: such accessible objects includes public objects (“COMMUNITY OBJECTS”), and any objects shared with them by another Polar Cloud member or group (“OBJECTS SHARED WITH ME”), as well as the member’s own objects (“MY OBJECTS”). Note that once an object is shared with a group, the group members may further share the object with additional Polar Cloud members or groups!

There are two approaches for sharing an object with a group: (1) to share any accessible object, navigate to the object’s detail screen, click “SHARE”, and then “Share with Groups” and select the desired group(s) – see Section 5.6 for a discussion; or (2) to share your own object, navigate to the group’s own “OBJECTS” page, click SHARE”, and then select the desired object(s), as discussed below. The effect is the same either way: selecting an object and then group(s) to share it with may be more convenient when you are sharing a single object with multiple groups (and is the approach to use when sharing an object to which you have access but which is not your own, such as a shared-with-you or public object), whereas from within a group, selecting object(s) to share may be more convenient when you wish to share multiple objects of your own to a single group.

To share an object using the group’s own “OBJECTS” page, from the group’s menu – see Figure 7.7 – click on “OBJECTS” to bring up a screen such as shown in Figure 7.33. Then click on “SHARE” (at center right) to bring up a “SHARE OBJECTS” pop-up screen listing your objects,2 as shown in Figure 7.34. On the “SHARE OBJECTS” screen, click the checkbox to the left of the object(s) you wish to select; then click on SHARE” (bottom right, Figure 7.35) once you have selected which objects to share.

The shared object(s) will now appear under the group’s OBJECTS” display, as shown in Figure 7.36. Clicking on an object tile will take you to that object’s detail screen.

Note that if you wish to create a new object specifically for a group, or upload an object to a group, you will first need to create or upload that object to your own collection of objects (“MY OBJECTS”), and then share your object to the group.
