Ephialtes comes to Leonidas with strength and a unique knowledge of the Thermopylae landscape. His disfigurement is no good in a Phalanx (okay, sure) but the Spartan code must therefore exclude him from society and any attempt at glory.

If Zack Snyder were to've stopped working after 300 this keynote extended shot would still have secured his name as one of cinema's breakthrough stylists.
Mirrorirng a side-scrolling videogame, we follow Leonidas as he defeats multiple foes for minutes on end. The sound is minimal and echoey and we zoom in and out, speeding up and slowing down, taking in the action from a point of view that defies time and space. Stylistic blood spatterings come in and out of focus on a Z axis and the fight is perfectly choreographed. It is one of the most impressive technical moments in film craft we've yet to see in the 21st Century.
