Huntington Ingalls Industries Promotes Vice President of Human Resources Huntington Ingalls Industries, Newport News, Va., has promoted Susan Jacobs to vice president of human resources and administration at the company’s Newport News Shipbuilding division. The position was previously held by Bill Bell who is retiring after 34 years. Jacobs has served as director of human resources and administration for more than nine years at Ingalls Shipbuilding, Newport News’ sister shipyard in Pascagoula, Miss. In her new appointment, she will be responsible for Newport News’s human resources adminstration, employment, labor relations, and recruitment. She will also have responsibility for the shipyard’s security and environmental health and safety organizations. IPG Photonics Welcomes Industrial Systems Sales Manager IPG Photonics Corp., Oxford, Mass., has appointed John Beaupré to IPG’s systems sales team. Beaupré has more than 30 years of experience in the laser industry, having spent the last 16 years growing Amada Miyachi America’s laser systems business in the United States and Canada. In his new role, Beaupré will share IPG’s automated laser welding, cutting, and drilling solutions with companies throughout North America. PFERD Adds Steel Works Technical Sales Specialist PFERD, Inc., Milwaukee, Wis., has hired Tim Lee as technical sales specialist, steel works. Lee brings more than 20 years’ experience to the position and will be responsible for working with customers on their cutting requirements, particularly large-diameter cutoff wheels. OBITUARY Jerry G. Knapp passed away on October 16. Knapp was the American Welding Society’s (AWS) District 17 Director and an AWS Life Member. A graduate of Fort Worth Business School, Knapp studied drafting and design engineering technologies. After gradation, he joined National Welding Supply where he grew into an experienced salesman in the gas and welding supply industry. He went on to work for companies such as Gas and Supply, Alloy Welding Supply, and Arkansas Specialty Co. He also worked as a grinder, a welder’s helper, and in sheet metal welding. Knapp joined AWS in 1977, and was a member of the Tulsa Section. He served as the Tulsa Section Chairman in 2002–2003 and again in 2006–2007. Most recently, he served the Society as District 17 Director since 2014 and had been reelected to serve a second term from 2017 to 2019.
