Presenters: David Smith, Southwest Steel Castings; and Larry Bailey, Henderson Manufacturing Topic: Foundry and castings Summary: The speakers went over the history of the foundry industry and brought examples of castings and molds. Attendees were able to observe different furnaces, review their layout, and learn about what methods are used to melt the metal and their different melting times. The speakers also examined pattern makers and their job requirements as well as spoke about a few examples of big casting projects such as the Liberty Bell. NORTH TEXAS September 20 Location: Arlington, Tex. Summary: District Director Jerry Knapp presented district awards to the members of the Section. TULSA September 30 Location: Pipelines Union 798 Training Center, Tulsa, Okla. Summary: Thirty individuals attended the AWS Certified Welding Inspector Seminar led by CWI Instructor Ed Norman and hosted by the Section. Following a round of golf, attendees enjoyed lunch and participated in prize drawings. BRITISH COLUMBIA September 21 Location: UA Piping Industry College of British Columbia, Delta, B.C.
