Our Year: CollaborationAccelerating Crucial MOU
<< Previous Page Next Page >>

During 2012, ASCP and the ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) completed the terms of their 2004 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) one year earlier than expected, meeting all the tenets of the agreement. The purpose of the 2004 ASCP/ASCP BOC MOU was to implement the 2003 bylaws of ASCP while preserving the independence of certification functions, assuring financial stability, and establishing the ASCP BOC as an integral part of ASCP.
As a result, an amended MOU became effective July 1, 2012, and expires on June 30, 2022. Both the ASCP BOC Certification Maintenance Program and our gold standard certification program continue to ensure the BOC’s financial stability. These programs enable the ASCP BOC to continue the growth of its international certification program, as well as to work on other innovative projects that support certification.
This MOU is a collaborative effort of three Sponsoring Societies—ASCP, American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science, and Association of Genetic Technologists—and eight Participating Societies: AABB, American Association for Clinical Chemistry, American Association of Pathologists’ Assistants, American College of Microbiology, American Society of Cytopathology, American Society of Hematology, Clinical Laboratory Management Association, and National Society for Histotechnology.
