The waters around St. Andrews State Park are nice for both beginning and experienced kayakers. There is plenty of interesting shoreline to explore as well as good swimming and snorkeling spots. Experienced paddlers may want to make the crossing to Shell Island or even paddle out the pass for some sea kayaking. The easiest and safest way to try kayaking on Shell Island is to arrange a rental package that includes a ride on the Shell Island Cruise and kayaks available on Shell Island.

Crew members and staff can keep an eye on radar to see if a storm is approaching. They will discuss your options. Cancelling and rescheduling your cruise can be done at any time if you are concerned about inclement conditions. However, cancelling your cruise is often a last-minute decision. It is highly recommended to let Island Time management know if you need to cancel. Bad weather can cancel a trip. You have the option to reschedule, cancel or refund.
Dolphins can be found in their natural habitat and are not kept in cages or in netted areas. To better view the wild dolphins, polarized sunglasses are highly recommended. It is very rare that we do not see dolphins.
After about an hour at Shell Island, we’ll take a leisurely sailing cruise out to the Gulf of Mexico to look for wild dolphins! (Please read dolphin disclaimer below). We always hope the conditions will line up just right and it’s pretty rare not to see dolphins, but the itinerary is based on the weather and conditions for your safety and enjoyment. The cruise back to the dock is a fun sailing party at Panama City Beach with upbeat music, games and dancing.
I had a great time relaxing on the catamaran and watching for dolphins. Also, paddle boarding and snorkeling were fun. Great staff! We saw quite a number of dolphins and stingrays. It was fun, even though there were not many fish to snorkel with.
Once you get there it is all worth it, as it is the most beautiful water I've ever seen. It is like you are swimming in a pool. It is so crystal clear. We didn't know what to expect so we went planning to spend a few hours on the island. Come expecting to spend all day!
There is no limit to the activities you can experience at or on Shell Island! You can swim, snorkel, paddleboard, go kayaking, sunbathe, hunt seashells, go hiking, have a picnic, and more!
Though the area boasts an average of 320 days of sunshine per year, late spring, summer and early fall offer some of the warmest air and water temperatures. Plus, by avoiding a visit in March or April, you'll dodge the deluge of college students who descend on the area's ivory sands every year for spring break.
This island is not as secluded as you see on the pictures and we couldn't find any of the cool shells either. (I understand that it's nature and can't be controlled).
