The St. Andrews State Park encompasses the western half Shell Island. It's as Florida-like as you can get. It doesn't mean you won’t stop at a food court or picnic table. You will still have the chance to see some beautiful, unspoiled wilderness on the East Coast. A variety of endangered species can be seen.
Snorkeling is good around the St. Andrews State Park jetty, and excellent out on Shell Island. Habitats range from sand bottom, to shallow grass flats, to the rocky faces of the jetties. Expect to see tropical fish, crabs, rays, and if you are lucky, a sea turtle or some of the resident bottle nose dolphins. Agree with above, go around 11 a.m., to get the best of daytime sun, because April has some fairly cool days. over a year ago. I'd plan for late morning/early afternoon. There's no shade so if it is really warm you don't want to be there at the absolute hottest part of the day.
