We are passionate about our dolphins and want their health to be preserved for future generations. We hope they are as excited to see our family as we are to be there! Unfortunately, this would mean they are being fed by boat people, which is illegal and ultimately dangerous for dolphins.
The St. Andrews State Park encompasses the western half Shell Island. It's as Florida-like as you can get. It doesn't mean you won’t stop at a food court or picnic table. You will still have the chance to see some beautiful, unspoiled wilderness on the East Coast. A variety of endangered species can be seen.
The Park lies along miles of sugar-sand coastline, which is consistently rated America's best beach. St. Andrews State Park is 1200 acres. It offers boating and camping as well as swimming and watersports. You can also hike and bird/wildlife watch. Shell Island Cruises can be found at 405 Cliftonia Cir in Panama City Beach, FL 32408.
Shell Island is just one part of the tour. We will be crossing the island. We often see dolphins swimming in the area. Keep an eye out for them. A charter fishing trip could include a Shell Island stop.

Shell Island is an undeveloped barrier islands off Florida's Emerald Coast. It measures approximately 7 miles in length, running east to west. It's made up gracefully of sand dunes and pine hammocks. A protected inland lake is home to deer and shorebirds. Shell Island is home to a wide range of endangered and coastal species, as well as a protected shore.
Among the many things to do in Panama City Beach Florida, there is one standout that should not be missed. At the far south end of the long stretch of resort hotels and condominiums lining the white sands of Panama City Beach, Shell Island which is located across from St. Andrews State Park offers a surprisingly pristine slice of Florida coastline to beach lovers and outdoor adventurers.
Once you get there it is all worth it, as it is the most beautiful water I've ever seen. It is like you are swimming in a pool. It is so crystal clear. We didn't know what to expect so we went planning to spend a few hours on the island. Come expecting to spend all day!
There is no limit to the activities you can experience at or on Shell Island! You can swim, snorkel, paddleboard, go kayaking, sunbathe, hunt seashells, go hiking, have a picnic, and more!
Though the area boasts an average of 320 days of sunshine per year, late spring, summer and early fall offer some of the warmest air and water temperatures. Plus, by avoiding a visit in March or April, you'll dodge the deluge of college students who descend on the area's ivory sands every year for spring break.
This island is not as secluded as you see on the pictures and we couldn't find any of the cool shells either. (I understand that it's nature and can't be controlled).
