Chapter 8
Overview of creation and settings for a class group

To get started using a 3D printer in your classroom, start with a Polar Cloud group for your class: a group is an easy, convenient way to enable students to use your printer, and to share objects with the class.

Note that the Polar Cloud can create class groups based on Google Classroom classes. So if you already use Google Classroom for your classes, you can, if you wish, shortcut the group creation process! In particular, while creating a group, the Polar Cloud can automatically add to the Polar Cloud group the students from a Google Classroom class: the students won’t have to create an account for the Polar Cloud (they can log in to the Polar Cloud using the same Google account used for Google Classroom), and the students won’t have to take any action to join the Polar Cloud class group (they will be members of the group from its very creation). Also, during the creation of a group based on a Google Classroom class, you will be asked which printer(s) to share with the group. So if you use Google Classroom, and log in to the Polar Cloud using the same Google credentials, and choose to have the Polar Cloud make use of your Google Classroom class information to generate the Polar Cloud class groups (see Section 8.1), then the one additional step you’ll most likely want to take is to assign curriculum modules to your newly created class groups: see Section 8.10. (You can also, at your leisure, take a look at the various group fine-tuning possibilities in the rest of this chapter.)
