Soon (see Section 8.7) you’ll be allowing your classroom group to access your 3D printer.
You may further chose to allow students to operate the 3D printer(s) themselves, if probably not initially, perhaps later when students are more experienced.
Before allowing students to stop and start the printer, change filament, remove objects, etc., some safe operation training is recommended. Basic safety precautions apply whenever a motorized machine is operated: properly plug-in the printer; keep loose hair or articles of clothing fastened back when operating the machine; the extruder nozzle is hot; the Polar3D printer’s build plate is made of glass and hence is breakable if dropped, etc.
Initially, you may well prefer to keep control of the printer yourself, being in charge of starting and stopping students’ print jobs, changing filament, etc. You might later delegate some control to some trusted students or a teaching assistant. Eventually, especially in a classroom of more experienced or older students, you may find it most convenient to allow the students themselves to operate the printer.
To enable operational control of any printers shared to the group (operational control to start and stop print jobs; see all print jobs queued, including those queued by other group members), the group setting “Control Printers” is available on the group’s “SETTINGS” screen.
