There may be existing groups within the Polar Cloud that you would like to join. To find a group of possible interest, you may scroll through or “SEARCH” under the “PUBLIC GROUPS” screen; Figure 7.57 shows an example. “SEARCH” compares against the group’s “Name”, “Description”, and “Tags”.
As discussed in Section 7.2, you will only be able to see listed and find via searching those groups defined as “PUBLIC” (non-members can see full group details) or “MODERATED” (non-members can only see an overview and the group manager(s), but may not see a list of group members).
Clicking on a group (of which you are not a member) will take you to the group’s “SUMMARY” screen for non-members; see Figure 7.58. Typically, school or class groups will have been defined as “PRIVATE” (in which case you won’t be able to see them at all – not even that such a group exists), or as at most “MODERATED” (in which case you can see the group’s existence and a few details such as its manager(s), but not its list of members).
To request to join a group, click on the “JOIN” button (at the upper right of the group’s “SUMMARY” screen displayed to non-members); see Figure 7.58.
If it is a group configured for “PUBLIC” access, clicking “JOIN” at the group’s “SUMMARY” screen will automatically add you to the group. If it is a group configured for “MODERATED” access, clicking “JOIN” at the group’s “SUMMARY” screen will generate a request to join notification to the group owner, and it will then be up to the group owner whether or not to approve your join request.
Note that at a group’s “SUMMARY” screen, clicking on a manager’s member tile, or in particular clicking the “EXPLORE” button at the bottom of the tile (see Figure 7.59), will take you to that group manager’s Polar Cloud member profile page, as discussed in Section 4.1; the group manager may or may not have chosen to include additional contact information at the profile page.
