Hey, you know what the upcoming fifth season of Dexter really needs? More guest stars playing Miami cops.
Oh, well, look at that -- Showtime must've been paying attention, because the network has just announced that Peter Weller has been cast as "a troubled Miami Metro police officer who gets caught up in an internal affairs investigation" in the upcoming season. Weller -- who you might recognize from such little known films like RoboCop, Buckaroo Banzai and his recent guest spot on Fringe -- joins the growing ranks of south Florida cops that includes recent castings Jonny Lee Miller, April Lee Hernandez and Shawn Hatosy. Anyone else think it's rather odd that there's all of these cops being cast and, according to hints dropped by executive producer Sara Colleton, no major villain for Dexter to punish this season?
Yet while it seems like this entire season of Dexter will take place in the Miami Metro police station, let's not forget that Julia Stiles and Maria Doyle Kennedy have also joined the cast in non-cop roles. So let's just assume that the season will takes place 3/4 of the time in the precinct.
