9.1 Adding a printer to your Polar Cloud account

The process for adding a printer to your Polar Cloud account varies according to the make of printer.

Typically, a printer is first connected to the Polar Cloud by the printer’s owner when the printer is first acquired; for instance, for a new Polar3D printer, see the detailed instructions in Chapter 1: Get connected to the Polar Cloud of the Polar3D Printer Guide; for initially registering a FlashForge printer, see Section 9.1.2; for initially registering a DREMEL 3D45 printer, see Section 9.1.3; for a printer newly controlled by OctoPrint, see Section 9.1.4.

Polar Cloud members may also share management of a printer, which is typically achieved via the printer owner granting manager access to their printers; see Section 9.2.3. That is, printer management can be shared without altering printer ownership, and without altering the printer registration to a particular account in the Polar Cloud.

If you have acquired a previously used printer, especially if the printer was previously used at your site, see the discussion of changing printer ownership in Section 9.2.1; for some circumstances (in particular, if either the network configuration is still the same or you wish to retain the printer’s existing job history and job queues), it may be simpler and more satisfactory to have the former owner re-assign printer ownership rather than going through the process of adding the printer to your account as a “new” printer (completely re-configuring the printer’s network profile and re-registering the printer in the Polar Cloud).
