9.1.1 Adding a Polar3D printer to your Polar Cloud account

The printer “TILE” and “LIST” displays both have an “ADD” button (towards the upper right), for adding a Polar3D printer to your account; see Figure 9.3 and Figure 9.4. See the detailed discussion in Chapter 1: Get connected to the Polar Cloud of the Polar3D Printer Guide.

Note that if you attempt to add a printer to your account while it is still registered in the Polar Cloud as having a different Polar Cloud member as its owner, the effect will depend upon the “Add Allowed” switch of the printer’s “SETTINGS” screen. If “Add Allowed” is disabled, then a printer may not be added to another account while it is registered to a different Polar Cloud member; see Figure 9.6 showing an error message at the bottom of the screen.

If “Add Allowed” is enabled, however, then the effect of adding the (already owned by another Polar Cloud member) printer to your account will be that you are added as merely a manager of the printer, rather than as the printer’s owner, and the printer’s existing job history and print queue will be unaffected. This option to add a manager to an already owned printer is intentional behavior, as it allows for cases such as a substitute teacher managing the printer while the usual teacher is unavailable: the substitute teacher “adds” the printer and thereby becomes merely a new manager, rather than wiping out the primary teacher’s ownership.

If you wish to “wipe out” a prior Polar3D printer owner’s ownership and printer history and print queues (such as when you have acquired a Polar3D printer from a different school district or other organization) so that you can register yourself as the owner of the printer in the Polar Cloud, first connect to the Polar3D printer’s local web interface and click the “Reset Printer on the Polar Cloud” button on a “Network” screen. Then go through the steps to add the Polar3D printer to your account, as if it were a brand new printer, as discussed in Chapter 1: Get connected to the Polar Cloud of the Polar3D Printer Guide.
