Producer Steven Moffat promised that The Doctor’s new companion, Amy Pond, would be unlike any in the show’s history – and he’s right. The companions, with few exceptions, pine pitifully over the Doctor, hoping one day that he’ll fall in love with them. Yet given the crazy circumstances that drive Scottish Amy Pond (played by actress Karen Gillan), and The Doctor together, she may just be the best match for the timelord yet.

At BBC America’s recent press event, we talked to Gillan about what makes her relationship with The Doctor work, whether we’ll see her on screen with herself at any point (it is a time travel show, after all), and why, with all of space and time to choose from, she’d like to visit Graceland.

And here’s a little spoiler you won’t get from the video, or from watching the newest season of Who: Gillan is tall, dudes. Like, super tall. Not that it matters too much, necessarily, but here I was on the red carpet and out walks Gillan.  I had to look up to talk to her. She’s also very well spoken, friendly and as you’ll see in the next few episodes, a great match for Matt Smith’s Doctor. In particular, in the second episode – but we’re getting ahead of ourselves.

Be sure to also check out our footage of producer Steven Moffat, as well as (coming soon) exactly why we’ve fallen in love with Matt Smith, and a preview of this Saturday’s episode of Doctor Who. But  first, heeeeere’s Gillan!
