Never watched Doctor Who before? Doesn’t matter. Steven Moffat, writer of some of the best episodes of the previous series, has graduated to Executive Producer, and rebooted the time-traveling alien for a new generation

With the first episode kicking off on BBC America this Saturday, the good folks at Beeb Amer held a press event featuring Steven Moffat, as well as stars Matt Smith (The Doctor), and Karen Gillan (the Doctor’s new companion, Amy Pond). Naturally, we were there to chat - and we’ve got more exclusive video with the pair coming up in the next few days. But first, a few words from Moffat on the new look of the show and topping his past successes.

For those of you who haven’t seen Moffat’s classic episode “Blink,” which first featured the Who villains The Weeping Angels, it’s a tense, tight, terrifying hour of television that perfectly plays with the concept of time travel in a unique way – tough to do, when Doctor Who has been on TV for so long. So we trust Moffat when he says he’s not trying to top the episode – but we’re still nervous this season’s Weeping Angels ep is just not going to match up the brilliance of it’s prequel.

And as for the look of the show? It’s darker, grittier, and more cinematic than any previous Who – surprising given the reported large cuts in budget for this series of the show. More on that later, and be sure to tune in the next two days for our exclusive footage of Matt Smith and Karen Gillan.
