Sure, UFC 114 dominated the weekend, but we were
also in town for the official release of UFC Undisputed 2010. At a swank party
featuring a live performance by former Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale
("Would have been awesome in 1995," UFC star Forrest Griffin told me)
I finally got a chance to sit down with the game. While others in the media
like Heavy.com's Matt Brown and Sports Illustrated's Ben Fowlkes were like old
pros, I was a distinct amateur. If anything, that made my bout look more
like a real UFC fight.
Since I had no clue how to play, my Georges St. Pierre character would simply
clinch his opponent, hugging and hugging until it was vaguely uncomfortable to
watch. Once I managed a takedown with a Street Fighter-esque swirl of the
joystick. Then I layed there. It was like a real GSP fight, only
without a racous Canadian crowd. In the end, my opponent missed a high
kick and I countered with a straight left, the only punch I really had
down. Knockout! Great looking game and one that I certainly
enjoyed, albeit in a distinct Jack Daniels haze. In stores!
