Used this machine in two different labs to sequence DNA. Both used Big Dye, and the similarities end there.
A beautiful machine - no one achieved levels of efficiency like I did with this machine. Still, it was under-utilized since the only person allowed to program it was lazy.
I got us this to demo for a few weeks and oh, the possibilities... It needed SERIOUS maintenance so I became an expert on its inner workings.
For pharmacogenetics; taught myself how to use this, then flew out to San Diego to be trained more thoroughly by Autogenomics. They went ahead and trained me on the HTS, as well.
This was the bad boy I used to perfect the RT-PCR viral load assay, saving the lab a ton of time and money.
I wouldn't expect myself to sit down and start peeling off 5um slices, but I used this thing quite a bit.
Didn't get extensive experience, but used it half a dozen times 10 years ago, which is better than no times ever...
Microplate reader; they're going to get more boring the rest of the way, but I can't leave something off and you think I don't know how to use it.
Eppendorf decided the margins weren't high enough on this machine so they stopped making it. Ha! But I know how to use it.
Being the only person in the lab who knew how to use barcodes, I became an expert on barcodes and scanners. And writing ZPL code to generate labels. This here's the Motorola DS9208, a personal fave.
We'd be here all day if I listed all of the different models I've used. I went with the most recent.
Listing these is getting tedious, I want to go work on the comedy page. I've done a ton of PCR and run billions of gels.
And here are some others I figured I'd throw in; so long as you know the list isn't exhaustive, I figure maybe it makes my repertoire of machines look impressive...?
