With winter officially behind us (along with the first days of spring), the Northern Hemisphere is finally starting to look a little brighter. The grass is green, the sun is shining – heck, the birds are finally coming back. At long last we can finally wear a decent pair of shorts, go tanning and enjoy a joyous romp in the outside world without fear of freezing off limbs. At least that’s true for the more temperate parts of the Northern Hemisphere; the arctic is still feeling the sting of being, well, ‘arctic.’

Regardless, the holiday season that ended 2013 recedes further into the horizon as 2014’s initial handful of holidays take its place. In the United States, we have a decent selection of popular holidays, some regional and some national, to fill in our desire for holiday cheer. Obviously, this being spring, we have a cornucopia of life-affirming power ballads as opposed to the smooth jazz that ends the year during winter, so we see a bit more excitement – in certain holidays, anyway.

New Year’s Day already killed off 2013, welcoming in 2014 for the next twelve months, so what’s next on the agenda? Martin Luther King Day and Chinese New Year came in January, with Valentine’s Day the next month. The groundhog must’ve been grumpy this year if the extra few inches of snow signify anything. St.Patrick’s Day was last month, when we let the streets run green, and we gave April its mandatory prank-injected prologue with April Fool’s Day, so that leaves us . . .

Yeah, it’s Easter.

For some of us, church is a necessity on Easter Sunday. For others, the Easter egg hunt is still a fond pastime; it isn’t every day you can hide painted eggs and have people applaud you for it. For those of us who are spending the holiday in Home, we have the annual Easter celebration – and this year, VEEMEE breaks out its new tradition for painting Acorn Meadows green.

Yes, for every major holiday so far, VEEMEE gives Acorn Meadows a welcome facelift with holiday-appropriate colors, decorations, and even weather patterns. Naturally this means it becomes a more vibrant park for Easter, with the trees colored a more happiness-inducing green and the sun beating down on avatars everywhere.  Also naturally, the average Home user will want to know what we can expect for the pending holiday.

If you’re expecting anything low-key, you don’t know VEEMEE. Acorn Meadows is its chance to turn the holiday into a grab-bag of insanity coupled with charm, so it should be no surprise bunny jammies and walking chicks still in their eggs race around the park. The decorations are pretty delightful, too – give the area a slight twist and you might see how Easterland might have looked like if Jack Skellington visited it instead of Halloween Town.

Easter will invade the park, unsurprisingly, and you will get the chance to earn a few extra acorns plus a few new twists on the park’s traditional fare. (Ducks as boats!) Obviously this is going to be a limited-time affair, so be sure to visit every day it’s up. You will earn more chances to increase your acorn harvest before the event’s over.
