Blueprint Mazes Scavenger Hunt Wrap-up
by Gideon, HSM team writer
Since the inception of PlayStation Home, gamers have used the resources available to them to create an eclectic array of games and puzzles. Players have constructed mazes, set up board games and used furniture to build towers upon which to climb. I myself organized a surprise Wizard of Oz adventure for one of my good friends that involved her being whisked off to multiple locales, both public and private, following the disco-brick road and meeting the full character roster of The Wizard of Oz as they could only be portrayed in Home and through our respective perspectives. Yes, even Toto was there.
The imaginative whim of an inspired Home cloud-walker could hardly be dissuaded by the lack of tools tailor-made for creativity. This creative spirit seems to have endured the test of time and has finally been embraced by Home itself through the astounding development and release of Blueprint:Home by nDreams. Through this floor plan designer, one of Home’s oldest and most cherished community-created archetypes has been given new life and spawned a community event with considerable support.
A first of its kind, HSM was immensely proud to hold this event on August 26th, 2012 — a community developed, designed, and hosted Blueprint:Home event that was sponsored by the developer itself. It seems as if nDreams just can’t get enough of those firsts.
The event consisted of six individual mazes, each of which were as varied as those who hosted them. As if imbued by the very personality of their creators, each maze reflected the playful (and in some cases sadistic) nature of the hosts. Some mazes trapped players in rooms, setting them on a maddening loop from which there seemed no escape. One maze consisted of almost identical rooms, each twisting in slightly varying ways. Hidden chairs lurked behind walls. Windows taunted of spaces the player was trying to access. Teleporters removed players from the maze before they were done, forcing them to rush back into the fray, flustered and with an intensely renewed sense of crushing urgency.
It was an absolute blast to watch players run to and fro and back again, lost and confused as to which way lay the path behind and which should lay ahead. In the end the winners of the mazes won prizes of their choice from an assortment of nDreams swag.
The following video was captured to try to show the sense of urgency and playfulness we all experienced during this unique and hopefully first-of-its-kind event.
Thank you to DarthGranny for organizing this event, HSM for hosting it, and most of all nDreams for bringing the Home dream of user-created events to life like never before.
Congratulations to all who won Blueprint style packs and Fantasy Fashion packs from nDreams!
What an awesome video, Gid! Very funny and fun to be a part of it, too. I hope everybody had a great time at the maze races; I know I did.
