Wedding Bells Are Ringing At Lockwood
by Burbie52, HSM team writer
I am not a fan of x7. Anyone who knows me will tell you this. I didn’t have access to it for a long time because I don’t own any of the gaudy clothing or mansion spaces; they aren’t my style at all. I didn’t like the way x7 was promoted, and though the interior is okay, the sexy hunks and babes running around are way over the top and in bad taste. That being said, when I recently bought a PlayStation Plus subscription I was suddenly able to access this place. So I decided to go look at it one time to see what all of the hoopla was about.
While I will still never be a fan of it and will never go there just to dance or stick around for any length of time, there is one thing I do like there: the store. Having early access is nice — not because I want to flaunt the ability to get stuff a week ahead of schedule, but because I can then write about things that are worth the effort and give everyone here a heads up on some of it. Last time it was a personal space coming out — Crystal Seashores. This week it is the new Lockwood content: the Wedding Collection.
I have a clubhouse that’s been morphed and decorated into a wedding chapel (affectionately called the Chapel of Love); there have been a few weddings there — not as many as I might like, but it was fun creating a clubhouse wedding space with a built-in reception area for anyone to use who wants a Home wedding. It is essentially a club without members, as I add the bride and groom and then give them the power to add their friends and create a wedding for themselves.
Much of the new wedding collection stuff is perfect for a scenario like this: the clothing, hairstyles and furniture are very well done and come in bundles to make the pricing easier. Lockwood has thought this out and also added some nice gifts to the gift machine to give your friends who are getting married, even a free mega-toaster that has warm smoking toast popped out of the top of it. I love the toaster! It looks much more real than others that have been previously done.
The furniture bundle has a lot of great items in it to build your chapel with. There are two levels of bundle packs: one is called the Reception pack, which sells for $4.99 and includes two tables, a wedding cake, a nicely decorated chair, lilies in a vase, a trellis, confetti cannon, and last but far from least something we have been asking for in Home for a long time — a full place setting of dishes that includes glassware!
That last entry is one that I have been talking about for a long time. I hope it is just the beginning of several sets of place setting like it
in a variety of styles and colors. The one here is very formal like you might find at a wedding, but it would be nice to have a choice of them to suit any occasion. How about a picnic set or everyday wear you might find at any dinner table in real life? This set they have created is wonderful; it has an invisible background under it that allows whatever the table has on it to show through. I think that was very well thought out and much better than if it had been put on a placemat.
The other bundle is called the Wedding Planner’s Pack and costs $6.99, but it also includes all of the food that comes in a bundle for $3.99 by itself. So considering that, it is a good value because you get everything for two dollars more.
The clothing is well done and very stylish. The Bridesmaid outfit is in two parts and has a few good combinations that work with each piece so it can be used for other outfits. The wedding dress is a one-piece; of course, I am still hoping that someone comes up with a series of long separate skirts that we can mix and match, they are sorely needed and would sell like crazy.
Both of these come in bundles that make them much more affordable than if bought separately. They are a bit pricey on their own, adding up to around seven dollars to purchase, so the Bride Pack at $4.99 is a steal as is the Bridesmaid that is $3.99. There is also a Groom Pack for $4.99 that is a wonderful new addition to the formal wear in Home for men. I loved the fact that it has both the full tailcoat and also just the waistcoat separately, so the groom can look like he is less formal during the reception. Nice touch there.
I have to say I find it interesting that Lockwood has taken this direction. June is wedding month in real life, so maybe they are playing off that and the fact that Granzella now has a chapel in a public area to use. There are also several private ones like the one I offer to be used, and there have been quite a few real-life weddings that have spawned from their Home counterparts as well.
With the nice free rewards we got from them during the last Lockwood showcase, like the table, chair and flower arrangement, it would be quite easy to put together a chapel of your own in a personal space or club without buying the whole enchilada here. But the pieces they have offered are very nice additions and Lockwood deserves recognition for paying attention to what we say about things that are lacking in Home and giving them to us.
Are REAL bride’s dresses seperates? Authenticity Brubie! Authenticity!!! LOL.
I wonder how long it will be before you can get a “married” status in Home. If they do that they could allow co-ownership of apartments and shared emotes. There’s quite a bit of possibility with a marriage concept in a virtual world.
Hehe. I just giggled at the thought of “pregnant tops” for female avatars.
Actually, I have seen real bride’s dresses created as separates. Same goes for bridesmaids’ dresses.
Really? I knew of the brides mades separates but not the brides. I guess I should go to my local wedding shops to browse the wares more often eh? lol
Pics or it never happened.
Not only should there be pregnancy tops, but there should be a baby stroller as a virtual companion. Seriously. It’d make money. And I totally dig shared emotes between users. That needs to happen.
If they have that… I want an evil baby stroller that is dirtied, bloodstained and tattered with yellow/red eyes peering out from under the dank shadowy canopy.
lol, that’s just wrong… but wonderfully creepy! It should be able to levitate at some point as t follows you. lol
Good idea Gideon!
Shades of Rosemary’s Baby! That is too funny of an idea not to happen.
As always Burbie,
Great article! I’m glad Homes designers took the brown wrapper off the marriage scene in Home. Relationships are a BIG part of Home. Go LOCKWOOD!!! This whole collection is beautiful! I love the place settings, and toaster. It fits so well in my Weekend Lake House…and others.
Thanks Burbie
I loved tnis review and great to read before the stuff comes out to non X7 people. Now i need to run and get a new PSN card. Its funny about the pregnancy tops and strollers, I wouldnt put it past them for that to come out too.
I doubt I will be having a wedding on Home lol. But would love to attend some parties. I give great gifts!
On a side note, i was in the Hub the other day and a random person told me they loved me, so I said “lets get married”, they shut up quickly. Lol
Great read and review Burbie. When these items go public they are sure to sale lots. With so many relationships happening on PsHome Lockwood was smart to come out with these items during this time as well.
During this time Luto, you mean when the schools are out?
i mean this time of year when ppl seem to like to get married alot. just as the article stated. I think those who are in school when there in are out of classes. If there homw users and want something there going to get it. either before are after class
2 years ago today, I married my little sweetheart kandi Munro, in SecondLife, the wedding was a little over the top, with officiate, her wedding dress was gorgeous and designed by friends of hers, I managed to wear ‘shoes’ (for once)
On SecondLife in general there is an option on your ‘profile’ to be in a Partnership with another profile for $1000 Linden dollars. (which is close to $4 in real money)
It’s worth it if you both want to make it ‘Official’ that you are together.
There are ‘Pregnancy’ avatars in SecondLife (If you click on the stomach area, it tells you the status of the pregnancy, i.e.. How far she’s gone until birth)
The ‘baby’ itself, is kind of like a doll. Your avatar can hold it or play with it or watch it crawl around the floor.
Yes, I agree with Norse, Home would go nuts for something like this. (Pregancy Oufits) But I really don’t know how far Home developers want to go with this.
I’m really happy that Home citizens can ‘really’ marry now with the outfits that are on offer. I think it’s really cute.
