VEEMEE Cooks Up A Kitchen

How awesome is this? We have new modular kitchens to play with!

First, let me say, thank you, VEEMEE! If you were here I would totally kiss your whole face twice. I love the new modular kitchen.

Okay — I’m calm again now, so let’s get started. Well, kind of calm: I am totally stoked about these new kitchens. When it is all said and done, decorators must have new things to work with, and these new kitchens are right on the money. The pieces themselves display true attention to detail. They fit together perfectly, and you can place things on all flat surfaces, including the tops. The color selections are awesome (except the gold one, but that is my personal taste). So let’s take a look at what we now have to work with.

At my Paris Clocktower

As most of you know, all we had before that was “kitchen” related were the furniture and ornament items from Ghostbusters and MyDeco. And let us not forget the great toasters and fridges from VEEMEE. While they were nice, both sets had issues that drove me crazy from the get-go. The fit was bad on the sides with the Ghostbusters small cabinet and stove. It is impossible to line them up to make a smooth counter top. While the longer cabinet and sink sections didn’t have this issue, it wasn’t always possible to use the longer one in a small space, so you were stuck with a sloppy mess.

The black ornamental kitchen items from MyDeco have their own issues. You can’t place anything on the counter tops next to the kitchen sink, nor can you actually walk into the curved area on the stove section. They are lovely to look at, but when you want to make them look “lived in” by placing appliances or food items on them, they failed miserably. But that is all we had to work with. So like most, I just had to make it work.

Now VEEMEE is introducing new modular kitchens. They come in black, white, red, stainless steel, and gold. The parts are sold separately, but your best buy is to purchase a bundle for $8.99 and save some money to buy other goodies. The bundles include a Corner Piece, Short Counter, Double Counter, Stove, Sink, Breakfast Bar, Quarter Round End, Refrigerator, and a Bar Stool. The possible configurations are near endless, and the selection of items allows us to build a kitchen in just about any space, including tiny and oddly-shaped ones.

Sadly, I couldn’t afford the big bundle at this time, so I was forced to purchase only the stainless steel and black smaller bundles. The red one is next on my list though! I did have an issue with the stainless steel quarter round end piece not showing up right away. It downloaded, but I wasn’t able to access it until the next day. I’m not sure what happened there, but it is all present and accounted for now.

My new Metro Apt. kitchen!

One thing I adore is that the pieces from the different sets mix and match quite well. They also fit together flawlessly, and that is a big deal in any decorator’s book of “must have”. However, I am a tad confused as to why the developers didn’t match the back splash on the stove and sink pieces with the rest of the counter pieces. I would also like to have seen the fronts of the refrigerators and stoves in colors, rather than only having corresponding colored accents.

I would love to see VEEMEE add some new color options, such as light and dark wood grains, counter-top appliances, or a counter section that includes a dishwasher.  And how about some plants that hang down over the front of the top cupboards? After all, it’s the little details that truly make a house in Home a home. I would have also liked to have a square or rectangular end section. Those are very important for building a kitchen island, or adding a “pass through” section, if we are using them in a wide open space.

Which reminds me: kudos, VEEMEE! It is about time someone realized we needed overhead cabinets too! Perhaps your next version can have the cabinets floating, so we can also have that “pass through” option in our kitchen creations. They also make great room dividers! Just as much attention was paid to the backside of them as the front side, so no more hiding the business side of a dishwasher, stove, or refrigerator. They are smooth and seamless, and the color variety will work with most any color scheme.

Don’t worry if you can’t afford a bundle. I tested these pieces, and they actually work quite well with the MyDeco items. There are some slight height differences, but over all they match well enough, so if you can only afford one or two items, you will have an excellent variety of configuration options.

The only thing we can hope for now is that one of the developers matches this awesome new arrival with something that is equally needed for any decorator worth his or her salt. Namely, bathroom items! We have been suffering with a very limited selection in this area. If nothing else, would someone please make a bathroom vanity? I personally would like to see a nice selection of sinks, cabinets, vanities with mirrors, a walk-in shower (or bath/shower combo), and of course, that little storage shelf that fits over the toilets we now have to use.

Awesome Island Getaway!

Right now, we have a selection of what, four bathtubs and three toilets? It’s nasty not to have a sink in the bathroom. Where are we supposed to wash our virtual hands? I have been forced to use the sinks from Ghostbusters and MyDeco in my bathrooms, and they just look wrong.

Whoever comes up with some awesome bathroom stuff will make a financial killing, and have every decorator on Home singing their praises, simply because no one else has done it yet. And please don’t forget the details. We like to be able to sit on the toilets, so it only makes sense to let us walk into a shower stall, or stand and sit in a shower/tub combo.

But for now, I am one happy camper, and I honestly can’t wait to see what Home’s outstanding designers come up with next.

Glad to see your article Dlyrius. It is about time someone gives us these things, especially when we are going to be able to finally design our own spaces. I hope that we get a way to show the developers in Home some of those designs we create as it would give them great feedback on what the community is looking for in private spaces. Nice read as always.

    • Dlyrius says:

OH I totally agree they should come see what we create, after all who knows, we may have some undiscovered developers lurking in Home :)

Yes, excellent article re: the new kitchen sets. It is good to read a thank you to a developer and to see the appreciation and excitement of a Home customer.

    Great pics too Dlyrius.

    Thanks River!

These sets are outstanding for sure. Today I remodeled the kitchen in my personal tree house space. Mind you, this is a space with not a single straight wall in it anywhere and the kitchen turned out awesome.

I am telling you folks, if you don’t buy at least one, if not all, of these pieces when they are for general sale next week, you are truly missing out on one of the very best furniture bundle releases I have seen in my 2+ years on Home so far. They really are this fabulous!

Wow I love this article this is great- Finally! Now I wish they would make walls the fake ones from Loot that stand alone and have a back. And Bookcases with books- the classics preferable :)

    • Dlyrius says:

Oh I totally agree. I love those walls, but the back sides of them make it impossible to use them anywhere because they look hideous. Hopefully the new Blueprint:Home will give us some options. It would totally rock if they made “walls” we could use in other spaces as well. Sure would make sectioning up those huge boring box spaces we have been seeing lately LOL
