Love Stories in Home

HomeStation ran, as our Christmas special, a wonderful and unique love story. Some of you might remember it: Discovering Love in Home.

If you haven’t read it, I suggest you dig through the archives on this site and find it; it’s worth your time. The two people that we featured in that story are both Home users, and found each other through Home.

Yes, there’s no shortage of failed romances in Home. Yes, there’s a lot of heartbreak in the world. Yes, Valentine’s Day is, for many people, a day met with pain and disdain. But there are exceptions to this. Here are a few of the responses we received to that article:

From crystal198: “This story really warmed my heart! I’m so happy for them! I’m so glad they took that leap to meet in real life. If you find the right person, Home is a GREAT way to get to know someone. You get to find out what they are really like. In real life dating, people aren’t really themselves at first. They are too busy trying to impress each other. They also usually decide whether or not there interested after only one date. Ive met the man of my dreams on Home as well. Because of financial issues(he lives 1,315 miles away) we cant quite meet in real life just yet, but the mic & eyetoy certainly makes it feel like we are together already.”

From Keara22HI: “I just heard from shearmadness (Maria) that she is moving to England to marry bloked (Dave)! They also met in the EA Poker Rooms and had a romance that was a delight to observe. And I heard that Scott and Trisha are house-hunting. Must have been something in the air in there.”

From Nosdrugis: “RL Nos and his RL Nosbride’s relationship is an online product. They met on an internet dating service, and have been together ever since. The story is not too unlike the one told here, but instead, the health issues manifested after life together began. Without divulging details, we shall just say that it was as though Nos and his mate were destined to meet – a balance of hardship and happiness.”

From Viennese: “The whole time reading the true ‘fairy’ tale, I was crying like a little girl. I beleive it. I believe in fate. And I beleive in Love. Before, I would have said, “Love on Home? Marrage on it? Happy ever afters? What on Earth have you been smoking?” My view changed this past year. All I can say is this: it happens, it’s rule. So believe. Even if your life stinks, someone out there is having the same feelings. Just open yourselves up to that person. You may just find your true love.”

At present, it’s estimated that one in five relationships in the United States met online. I’ll wager there are similar numbers for parts of western Europe. We simply lead such hectic, harried and submerged lives that Home, for many of us, is our primary social outlet. And while HSM doesn’t condone anyone using Home specifically and primarily to find romance, it is a wonderful thing when chance and fate conspire to let it occur.

There’s a line from Lost Horizon that’s been quoted more than once in HomeStation, and it is a repetitive theme behind much of what we write: “Be KIND to one another.”

And this article’s featured image? If you read our Christmas special, you’ll recognize them. :)

In keeping with the spirit of the day, here’s something you might enjoy. From all of us at HomeStation, we hope you find what you’re looking for. May we all.

    All you need is love.
    Love is all you need.

Many say love is blind. well in Home it really is. You don’t look at a person the same way you would in the real world because they aren’t in the real. You look at the heart, you look at the person, not the face, not the body. We all know that love is the most powerful emotion on the planet, much more powerful than its opposite. It is what drives us in our everyday lives, whether it is to find it or to live in it, we all need it to thrive. Happy Valentines Day to all of you, may you find love in your life in all of its many forms.

Just want to say -- Personally love love. Love being in love. Love loving. Hate Valentine’s Day. Always have. Always will. There is something about it that just gives off the wrong rub. We should show our love each other every day. Having one day out of the year set aside for lovers makes no sense at all, and in many cases causes heartache and despair even to the best of couples. It can create anxiety and feelings of guilt. Too much pressure to “hurry up and do something for your significant other”. It’s not fair. Putting a deadline on “proving” love is stoopid. Just sayin :)

Interesting Note: HBO is debuting a special tonight about online relationships.

Back to the topic of finding love online, this is something I’m not entirely comfortable with yet. It’s just the whole “You could be talking to a 40 year old man in Indiana” kinda puts me off. With that said, I have an account on OKCupid.

I think of it has me being a hopeless romantic giving something a chance.

I received a message today that NoOneIsImmune and SleepyJeans who were my friends in the EA Poker Room have also gotten married in real life now. SO: Coco and Sodium, Scott and Trish, Shearmadness and Bloked, and more… Must have been something in those free drinks at the tables. Ryan and RockStarVixen are in love, and Tonya and Luke are spotted together months after their big wedding in Home.

Which of you brave writers is willing to tackle this one as a topic? The poker pals are just one group. I will bet that beneath the Echochrome there has been some heavy breathing going on. And the Grey Gamers have been attracting a lot of new female members lately. Is Home replacing eHarmony?

SOMEBODY who is single and has tried both is urgently needed to do an article for HSM about internet dating services versus Home as a catalyst for an ongoing romance.

Very good idea,i imagine there r some similarities between the 2 but also some big differences.I’d really like 2 see how they stack up against each other.

Anybody here know NoOneIsImmune, or Sleepyjeans? Unfortunately, for reasons I won’t go into… it may be a long time before I can get back onto the PSN, and I have no way to get in contact with them… they were my best friends on there, and I would rather not go “years” without talking to them:) My email is joshuapowell3185@gmail.com. If you need to ask them about me before you trust who I am that’s fine, please just tell them that big Josh wants to talk to them:)

  10. keara22hi says:

Yes, I know them well. I will be delighted to deliver your message, big Josh.
