The flying carpet has always been a symbolic way
of travelling around the world; it is present in many
oriental tales, was popularized by the Arabian tale
One
Thousand and One Nights
and is also often featured
in many fantasy films. Furthermore the flying carpet
symbolises thedream tofly likeabird.
At thepresent time, dronesoccupyourminds: remote-
controlled or autonomous flying objects, drones open
a whole new realm of possibilities. From observation
to control, transporting objects to weapons, nothing
seems to be able to escape from the promise of their
performances. For better or forworse…
The exhibition
Heaven and Hell
broaches the theme
of flying machines and carpets according to a variety
of artistic interpretations: the symbolism of ancient
carpets and its inspirationby thegeometryof gardens,
the ancestral dream of being able to fly and flying
objects, theworld seen from the sky, theoccupationof
space by satellites, theworldwide expansion of drones
and its consequences.
