NORTH BETHANY

           A walkable community

           plan becomes home

           When Senior Cartographer Doria
Mateja looks at the North Bethany
map, she sees more than paper and ink.

           She sees teamwork and collaboration.
To Mateja, the site map represents both
the history and the future of a diverse,
           sustainable community.

“I think we’re doing a good job with this community,”
said Mateja. “The map on page 10 is where all the
working pieces come together for the first time.
It’s the result of a lot of work by planners, permit
techs, plans examiners, inspectors, other County
           departments and more.”

The map will depict “home” for many residents —
about 4,200 housing units are expected to be
constructed as North Bethany continues to build
out. In 2010, when the Board of County Commissioners
adopted the North Bethany Community Plan, no one
anticipated how quickly the area would develop.

“We thought it would take 25 years for a build out,”
said Suzanne Savin, senior planner with Long Range
Planning. “But here we are, only six years out, and large
areas are already under construction and some people
           are already living there.”
