NORTH BETHANY is almost 700 acres in eastern Washington County (see map) that was brought into
the Urban Growth Boundary in 2002 to meet continuing demand for housing. The LUT team, with the
help of consultants and agency partners, was able to plan the urban community literally from the
ground up, programming parks and trails to make North Bethany accessible via active transportation,
as per Metro’s requirements.
A compact commercial Main Street area, surrounded by multifamily housing is planned for the central
portion of North Bethany, with lower-density housing — primarily single-family homes — spreading
outward toward the rural lands on the west, north and east.
ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION
Any form of human-powered transportation including
walking, cycling, using a non-mechanized wheelchair,
in-line skating or skateboarding, etc.
