What is the nicest beach in the Panhandle
It is possible to snorkel at the St. Andrews State Park Pier, or out on Shell Island. You will find habitats from the sandy bottom to the shallow grass flats to rocky faces of jetties. Expect to see tropical fishes, crabs, rays and, in some cases, a sea turtle.
For both novice and expert kayakers, the waters around St. Andrews State Park offer a great place to start. There is plenty to see and do, including great swimming and snorkeling spots. We pick up and deliver approximately 2.2 miles to the State Park docks*. We don't drop off in the Jetty area*. This is a nature-preserved island, so we do not have any facilities for toilets or shade. It will take around 15 minutes to reach the dock at the island.
Shell Island is a nature preserve with no restrooms or any other visitor facilities such as trash receptacles, picnic tables, or shade pavilions. There is no trash removal service. Island visitors are asked to be responsible and take everything they bring to the Island with them when they leave.
Shell Island is technically only an island at high tide, and although the land is privately owned, the footpaths across it are open to the public.
Shell Island is on the west coast of Wales about 7 miles north of Barmouth. There is a road leading to there that you drive on, but at certain high tides the sea covers the road.
