Surprised to See Me?
Season: 2
Episode: "Nothing But the Blood"
The death of Miss Jeanette proves that running a fake exorcism business does not lead to the lap of luxury, despite what you may have initially thought. Instead, at the start of season 2, we see Lettie Mae Thorton's dear friend in the backseat of Detective Andy's car with her heart ripped out of her chest. Yup, that's how we knew True Blood was back in session.
Getting Shot Sucks
Season: 2
Episode: "I Will Rise Up"
After Eric gets blasted with silver bullets by the suicide-bombing Luke, Sookie gets a chance to play vampire by sucking away at his neck to cure the ill sheriff. By season 2 we learned that every character on True Blood is essentially a walking straw just waiting to be drank from. Mmm.

Season: 1
Episode: "The First Taste"
When Sookie is left beaten and barely alive at the hands of a couple of V dealers, Bill comes to her rescue, offering his blood to heal her wounds. Sparks fly as Sookie drinks the red stuff, giving a gross-out preview of things to come.
Eggs Well Done
Season: 2
Episode: "Beyond Here Lies Nothin"
Poor Eggs. This seemingly nice guy was controlled by the wicked Maryann, consistently shirtless, and eventually shot dead by Jason Stackhouse after an eleventh hour revelation. In the end, Benedict "Eggs" Talley died the way he lived. Sunny side up.
Meet Sookie
Season: 1
Episode: "Nothing But the Blood"
While not the most gory moment on the show, watching Sookie being attacked by the V dealers in the first episode was definitely the most jarring. By starting off on such a shocking note, True Blood viewers were made instantly aware that the series was not scared of portraying brutal violence.
Heck, even The Sopranos waited until their third season before Ralph beat up Tracee. It was clear early on that this wasn't your tween sister's vampire romance story.
