Jorge and Valerie Castillo

Appearance: "Love American Style," Season One

Codebreaker: Jorge and Valerie Castillo promised Cuban immigrants safe passage to the United States in exchange for money.  Anyone who couldn't pay would be left to die of starvation, locked up inside a junkyard shed.

Final Words From Dexter: "That's uh...helpful. Thanks."

Originally targeting Jorge as the his new victim, Dexter was quite surprised when he discovered Valerie, Jorge's wife, was also involved in his human trafficking business. Dexter showed a keen interest in how the pair made their marriage last twelve years and before killing them both, asked them what their secret was.

The Castillo's revealed that it was sharing the same twisted goals and dreams that kept them together all that time. This tidbit of knowledge was useful to Dexter who shared the same dream as Rita - to have a normal life.

Roger Hicks

Appearance: "An Inconvenient Lie," Season Two

Codebreaker: Roger Hicks raped and beat two women to death.

Final Words From Dexter: "Don't talk that way about my girlfriend!"

Roger Hicks was born to be a salesman. He was also a compulsive liar.  He had the natural ability to smooth talk his way through life and he used this power against the people he hated the most - women.

For some odd reason, perhaps it was a traumatic experience during high school, Hicks had a deep hatred towards all women. Before Dexter was able to do the deadly deed, Roger was able to make his last sale. He convinced Dexter to purchase a minivan. What a great salesman, you will be missed Roger Hicks.

Dexter: Freebo

Fred Bowman aka Freebo

Appearance: "Finding Freebo," Season Three

Codebreaker: Freebo was a drug dealer who killed two co-ed girls and was the number one suspect in the Oscar Prado murder.

Final Words From Dexter: “You seem uncertain. It's uncomfortable isn't it? Just when you think you've answered all the questions another one smacks you in the face. Life, life, life. Life is just like that! Which is why I prefer death!”

Freebo was the man. Not because he took one to the jugular, but because he found the cure for cotton mouth. Death. Thanks to Dexter, Miguel finally stopped whimpering about Freebo killing his brother and ended his mission to avenge Oscar's death.

Dexter: Zoey Kruger

Zoey Kruger

Appearance: "Dex Takes a Holiday," Season Four

Codebreaker: Zoey Kruger was a cop who murdered her husband and daughter and framed a criminal for doing it.

Final Words From Dexter: "I won’t. I’d rather risk them knowing the truth...than lose them. I don’t want to lose them. I don’t. That’s the difference between us.”

Falling victim to the pressures of juggling a family and being a serial killer, Zoey Kruger decided it's best that she murder her family. It seemed that filing for divorce was just too complicated.

When she discovered that Dexter was investigating her, she tried to eliminate him from the picture in fear that he may re-open her murder case. Little did she know that Dexter just wanted to kill her. Nice job Zoey Kruuuuuger, you succeeded in dying.

Dexter: Michael Donovan

Michael Donovan

Appearance: "Dexter," Season One

Codebreaker: Michael Donovan murdered children on a regular basis.  That's one way to get Dex' attention.

Final Words From Dexter: "Soon, you'll be packed into a few neatly wrapped Hefties and my own small corner of the world will be a neater, happier place. A better place."

Michael Donovan was a pastor and choir conductor who lived a double life. He got off by killing innocent children and hiding their bodies in the backyard of an abandoned house. When he realized Dexter was going to kill him, he pleaded for mercy on the grounds that he couldn’t help himself.

Dexter understood his need to kill; the only difference was that Dex would never kill children. Within the first few minutes of the show, the writers were able to tell us who Dexter is, what he stands for and why we should love him. Michael Donovan will always hold a very special place in our hearts, for he is our first Dexter kill.
