The People Who Punched Hitler

Hitler was an evil man, and many people wish they'd gotten a chance to pop him right in his stupid moustached face. You'll never get the chance to do it, but you can at least watch characters do the deed in your place!

Over the years, countless people have no doubt wished that they could get a chance to meet Hitler... and take all of their pent-up anger out on him. While such a thing has never happened in real life, many comic book artists, cartoonists, directors and video game designers have given their protagonists a chance to take a whack at the guy. Why? Because it's oh so satisfying. Let's take a look at some of the best people who punched Hitler.

Indiana Jones

Back in the heyday of adventure games, Lucas Arts was the group to beat. It cranked out hit after hit, including the Monkey Island series, Maniac Mansion, Zak McCracken and of course two of the best Indiana Jones games ever made. One of those games is based on The Last Crusade. Remember that scene where Indy bumps into Hitler and gets his autograph? Well, instead of asking for an autograph, you can now deck Hitler in the face! That leads to an instant game over because there's a dude wielding a chain gun right behind you, but it's worth a quick game reload. Of all the punches on this list, this one is the best from Hitler's end. The guy just takes it like a champion boxer and walks off like nothing happened.

Captain America

Well, this one's certainly pretty famous. In fact, it's probably the most famous "Punching Hitler" scene of all time. Captain America Comics #1 sold over a million copies and had the Cap decking Hitler in the face as its centerpiece. Most people were thrilled at the prospect, but the publishers did receive a lot of hate mail. Why? Were Nazis trolling Marvel? Well... no. You see, this happened a full year before the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. Americans couldn't be bothered with Hitler at the time. Little did they know this was the most American thing a superhero has ever done.

Rory Williams

Love him or hate him, Steven Moffat has some pretty sweet ideas. In the mid-season premiere of Doctor Who, for instance, he had the Doctor - under a certain someone's rather forceful urging -- go back in time to kill Hitler. I won't spoil it, but I will say this. Rory Williams gives Captain America a run for his money by decking Hitler, holding him at gunpoint and then locking him up in a cupboard. Rory then goes on a brave streak and decks another Nazi officer to steal his motorcycle. Not bad, Rory. I'm sure Amy Pond was very impressed.

William "B.J." Blazkowicz

OK, so this one technically isn't a punch, but it's close enough. When you finally fight Hitler after countless red herrings - sort of like the whole "Thank you, BJ! But our Hitler is in another castle!" thing - you do technically have the option to whip out your tiny knife and stab him to death. Probably not a smart idea since your little frog-sticker won't hold up well against his chainguns, but if you can time it, you can land a cool finishing blow. "Eva, auf Wiedersehen!"

Will and His Buddies

If there isn't enough Hitler getting punched in your life, this movie is for you - or you could just play that Last Crusade scene over and over and over and over again. Basically, in Punching Hitler, these three dudes travel back in time and meet young Hitler... and then form a plan of traveling repeatedly through time to punch Hitler in the face for every day of his life. At the tender age of ten, I doubt Hitler even knew WTF was going on. Poor little guy?

Raphael

Yep, the Turtles also took a turn against the head Nazi. This one, though, actually takes place in the future. What is it with people and bringing Hitler back from the dead? I can count a whole handful of times that was done. Thankfully, it fails worse and worse every time, so we don't have to worry about such a plan ever coming to fruition. Anyway, Raphael puts an end to things quickly by punching the man hard enough to make him lose his brain. I'm not sure how canon it is, but there you go.

Daffy Duck

Again, not technically a punch, but how can I not include Daffy? In this episode, which is banned, the duck takes on Hitler. Why? Because at a certain time in history, everyone had a shot at him. And rather than shooting or punching him, Daffy takes his big shot with an even bigger wooden mallet. Somehow I doubt this one's historically-accurate. Also it's probably a bit of a nod to Disney and their wartime propaganda film, Der Fuehrer's Face. Unlike Donald, though, Daffy didn't just mindlessly obey orders. Good job, Daf!

Daredevil

Much like Captain America, this one came out quite a bit before America's involvement in World War II. And Just like Captain America, the plot involves Daredevil and the other Silver Streak heroes going off to fight Hitler and stop his murderous reign. And of course, Der Fuehrer takes a few hits to that toothbrush mustache of his. See, now this would have made a fantastic plot for that Daredevil movie from some years ago. Much better than the crap they came up with. When in doubt, have your superhero beat up Hitler.

Captain Berlin

Recently, movie adaptations of comic books have been pretty damn good. Based upon a very obscure German comic book, Captain Berlin Vs. Hitler is an equally obscure film about the superhero, Captain Berlin, facing off against you-know-who. In this version, Hitler is brought back from the dead as nothing more than a brain with eyes, and it's up to our hero to stop him... just watch the trailer.

Gotenks

I'm not even sure what to do with this one. Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn is a weird, weird, weird, weird movie. Which is why it's so friggin' awesome! From Pikkon yelling dumb insults at an unbreakable barrier to get it to shatter... to this. Hitler (known only as "The Dictator" in the American version) comes back from Hell and attempts to take over the world again. Problem is, of course, that he gets stopped in a matter of minutes by Gotenks.

The Mystery Men

One of the many comic book series that tried to cash in on the 1930s craze, Mystery Men has become lost to obscurity. From the very limited information available on the Internet, however, we can deduce that these men of mystery did, indded, go after Hitler. In fact, they went after him in 1939, way before Captain America decided to pay Adolf a visit. This comic also claims that someone called "The Blue Beetle" is America's greatest hero, so I'm not sure how accurate it is.
