Other Frightening Nights

If you're afraid of the water, Shark Night 3D is bound to give you nightmares. If you're not, maybe some of these other frightening nights will.

The release of Shark Night 3D this week had us thinking: Yeah, sharks can be pretty scary, but Shark Night is far from the most frightening night we can imagine. Discovery Channel has a whole week dedicated to the cartilaginous underwater beasties, so how terrifying could one night of them possibly be?

So, to put the upcoming film Shark Night 3D into a little better perspective, we've assembled a list of the most fear-inducing, teeth-chattering, fingernail-biting, utterly terrifying nightly situations we can possibly imagine. Check out these other frightening nights...if you dare!

All-You-Can-Eat Night

Unlike Shark Night 3D, some of these other frightening nights don't seem so scary at first. Like All-You-Can-Eat Night, for example.

If you're anything like us, you hear about an All-You-Can-Eat Night and start getting ready. Plotting your meals out for the day before, detailing a plan of attack for when you get the restaurant and thinking of all the ways you'll turn down filler substances like rice, bread and salad. But nothing will truly prepare you for your horror upon reaching your restaurant of choice, because whether you're talking ribs, chicken wings, pasta or even a whole buffet, the food is never quite as good as it might look. And the most truly terrifying thing about All-You-Can-Eat Night? The clientele.

Blackest Night

Other frightening nights can be found in your local comic shop. For instance, DC's Blackest Night.

Ok, so DC wasn't the first company to do the whole "zombie versions of superheroes thing," as Marvel Zombies beat them to the punch by about four years. But they were the first ones to do it with a comic with "Night" in the title, which earns them a coveted spot on this list. The 2009 special event limited series Blackest Night saw dead heroes and villains rise from the dead, which was pretty terrifying even before you saw the list of how many tie-ins there were.

Family Game Night

Sometimes it's hard to imagine anything more terrifying that the prospect of spending an entire evening with your family. But when you throw Parcheesi into the mix, things get oh-so-much-worse. Try staring down your half-drunk father as he brandishes a dice throwing tube at you, daring you to keep up your blockade for one more round - just ONE MORE ROUND. This is one of the other frightening nights that truly sends a shiver down our spine.

Free Baseball Night

We know what you're thinking: "If it's free, how can it be one of the other frightening nights?"

Well, baseball fans can make for a pretty rowdy crowd. Who would have thought that throwing a bunch of provincial, sports-loving dopes into an outdoor stadium, and having them watch the world’s most boring activity for hours in direct sunlight while drinking beer could possibly turn into something ugly? But when things get absolutely terrifying is when these mouth-breathing buffoons are given things to throw at each other and/or the players. What kind of sadistic maniac came up with Free Baseball Night?

Fright Night

We know that the makers of this year’s Fright Night remake fully intended the thing to be scary, but we’re pretty sure the type of fear this film induces was anything but intentional. Your mileage may very, but we start shaking uncontrollably anytime we even think about someone making another run at turning Colin Ferrell into a bankable Hollywood star. They should have given up after Phone Booth.
