Facts & FAQs

Why is VCE entering into a capital campaign?

--Good stewardship of our building (continuous improvement)
--Given the $5 million asset value of our building, and our current total investment of only $500,000 +/-, this is
          a relatively small investment.
--Good stewardship of our finances (eliminates annual mortgage interest of $12,000)
--Create an even greater ministry space
--Prepares us for future growth and greater reach

    What will the campaign accomplish?

--Remodeling of sanctuary (new carpeting, stage redesign, AV improvements, etc.)
--New boiler, plus AC for foyer (reduces liability, increases efficiency, good stewardship)
--Retirement of debt (eliminates mortgage interest, positions us better for future ministry and further building
         development)

    Frequently Asked Questions

Will I be pressured to make a pledge?

No. Whether you participate in this campaign and how much you give will be entirely up to you. All members and guests will be given the opportunity to contribute if they wish.

How long will my commitment be?

You will be asked to make a three-year commitment.

If I can’t give a large amount, does my pledge really matter?

Absolutely! All pledges matter, regardless of the amount, because as we all give according to our ability, God multiplies our giving. If you consider Elgin Vineyard to be your church home, we would encourage you to ask the Lord what he would have you do.

Are you asking for a pledge in addition to what I am currently giving?

Yes. This capital campaign is dedicated to funding projects that are over and above our current budget, so our giving will need to be over and above as well. This allows the church to stay solvent on ongoing operational expenses.

When are we expected to give the amount pledged?

Pledge cards will be turned in during November, and pledges will begin to be received in the new year.

What forms of contributions will be accepted?

Contributions can be made by cash, check or online giving, which we expect to begin soon. Other forms of contributions can include the transfer of title to marketable stocks, bonds, real estate, etc.

May I update my commitment at a later time?

Yes. You may update your commitment at any time.

Do you have to be a church member to participate in this campaign?

No. Participating in Vision 2020: Renovate is a personal decision for each of us. Member or not, anyone may contribute to God’s work at Elgin Vineyard.

What are we doing to address handicapped accessibility in our building?

We are definitely committed to making VCE handicapped accessible. The challenge is that the two sides of our building represent a total of five levels. Based on the initial evaluation of an architect and commercial builder, this will require a significant building addition with a five-stop elevator to make all levels accessible. We have estimated that this addition, which would also provide new bathrooms on two levels, will cost approximately $1 million. We believe that this next step in our facility development is not realistic at this point, but that in a few years when our mortgage has been paid off and our infrastructure has been improved, we will be in a much better position to address this issue fully. In the meantime, we are also evaluating any short-term improvements that we can make to our existing chair lifts for the sanctuary and fellowship hall levels.

How might I prepare to participate?

Allow God to speak to your heart through prayer. Read Scripture passages that speak about stewardship and giving, such as:
    1 Corinthians 16:2
    Proverbs 11:25
    Proverbs 3:5-9
    2 Corinthians 8:1-7
    Acts 20:35
    Luke 6:38
    Psalm 116:12

    Loving God. Loving People.
