One of the things you have to do is grow. If you don’t grow – if you don’t stretch yourself – then you stagnate.
HomeStation, after more than two years, is at a point where it’s achieved many of its production goals. Without any advertising, search engine optimization or purchased traffic, HSM now has more than 100,000 unique visitors per year. We set out to prove that it was possible to have a level of long-form literary journalism on par with a commercial publication – and, more importantly, that there was an audience for it. We’ve even achieved a goal that very, very few Home media groups ever realize: thanks to LOOT’s Entertainment On Demand service, HomeStation is now available in Home itself.
Which means, of course, that it’s time to creatively stretch.
We stretched earlier this year, exploring creative fiction writing with our Halloween Special. But since we don’t like to conquer the same territory twice, it was time to try something truly off the wall.
Enter our Holiday Special – Home’s first cookbook!
Sounds crazy, right? After all, you can’t actually cook or eat anything in Home. So how could you have a Home cookbook?
The idea is to “break the fourth wall.” Behind every avatar is a real person, who has voluntarily chosen to spend time in this virtual world we share. And as this is the holiday season, one thing we’re all going to be doing is cooking – and eating.
So what are some of our own favorite dishes? And how could we give them a Home twist?
This is probably the most unusual HSM project ever attempted. It’s something we’re doing just for fun; a Home cookbook is such a left-field concept that we knew we had to try it. And, as an added bonus, there are even some recipes from developers in here! Take a look at what Jessie from Hellfire Games and Paul from Digital Leisure came up with – there are some really fun dishes from them to try out!
And that’s the important point to emphasize: these recipes are quite real. If you end up trying one of them, let us know. If this Home cookbook makes you smile and laugh, then we’ve done our jobs. Our goal is to give back to the Home community, and we hope that this is something that you enjoy in your own kitchen.

My mother -- who is visiting for the weekend -- is looking at the recipe book and is keen on trying out Paul’s Jackpot Pie, definitely Olivia’s Mercia Drowned Pig (if you could have heard her laughing as she read the story that went with it!) and Mike’s Midway Eggnog Pie, or Xi: Continuum chocolate cookies. Will let you all know the results.
I’ve gotta try those XI continium Cookies and The Godfather’s Pasta…I love Italian Food
