To change your avatar on the website, you have to set a Gravatar.
A Gravatar is a profile picture that follows your email address, so if you post on a blog and type in your email address, chances are they use that email address to go fetch your avatar from the Gravatar site.

To set it up:
Goto http://www.gravatar.com
Sign up with the same email address you used to register to this site (or the email you used to post comments)
Add your profile picture.

(will take a few minutes for it to work on the site due to Gravatar caching)
